Bookmark Creation Options in Snapshot Tool preferences

Post by Willy Van Nuffel »

Hi,

Probably it has already been there for a long while (since build 354 or even before), but now I saw this by coincidence:
"Bookmark Creation Options" available in the Snapshot Tool Preferences.

This does not seem to be correct?

Kind regards.

Hi Willy,

the option does apply to bookmarks when you create them. And since it is related to the snapshot tool it seems to me a reasonable place to put the preference.

What makes you raise the question may I ask?

cheers

Sorry for my late reaction on this topic.

I suppose, I was not clear enough with my explanation here above.

The "Bookmark Creation Options" normally belong to the "Page Text"-category in File > Preferences (see attachment).

A duplicate of these settings are also present in the "Snapshot"-category.
I honestly do not see the relation between bookmark creation options and the snapshot tool.

Changing the "Bookmark Creation Options" in one of both categories does NOT have an influence on the same settings in the other category. They are NOT bound.

To me, it seems to be wrong to find these same settings at two different places.
The more, changing these settings in the Snapshot category has no influence on bookmarks creation.

Thanks for giving some attention to this.

Hello, Willy Van Nuffel

The "page text" section for bookmarks affects what happens when you have text selected, and the create a bookmark from that content. The "snapshot" tool can be used similarly, but it is able to select a square region of the page, without needing to select other content, awkwardly place text, or otherwise use the "bookmark creation tool" and manually define the coordinates you wish the bookmark to point to. In brief it is a separate, often faster, method of placing an area based bookmark, and so we offer separate options for that function.

Hi Paul and Daniel,

This is a feature I was not aware of, and discovered by coincidence.

I only knew the Snapshot tool as a means of copying any part of a page in a PDF, not for the creation of a bookmark.

Thanks for the explanation.
