I am able to add bookmarks to a pdf in PDF XChange. However, all bookmarks are level 1, and I cannot find out how to modify the bookmark level.
Any suggestions?

Hi rschalie

welcome to the forum. Thanks for the question. There is a manual page here: https://help.pdf-xchange.com/pdfxe ... ks_ed.html

In a nutshell, if you select the nearest level bookmark in the tree in the Bookmark pane, then scroll the page to exactly where you want it for the new bookmark then hit the "Add Bookmark" button it should apply it at that bookmark level:
AddBookmarkWithLevel.gif
Does that give you what you are looking for?
Best regards

Thanks for your response, but not quite.

That was as far as I got, but now I want to insert a bookmark at the next level (so if i have a set of bookmarks at level 1, I want to be able to insert a level 2 bookmark). Nowhere I can find something that actively defines the level of the bookmark.

You are right. There is no immediate icon, nor menu-entry available for what you are looking for.

Moving a bookmark to a higher or a lower level, is respectively called "promote" or "demote".

The are two ways of doing this:
1) you can use the drag-and-drop method like shown in the attached screenshot
In the beginning it is a little bit trial-and-error to learn how it works
2) using the ALT + LEFT cursor-key for promote / ALT + RIGHT cursor for demote

In the Customize Toolbars feature, at Commands, then category Bookmarks View, you can find the "Demote Bookmarks" and "Promote Bookmarks" commands without icons, but with their shortcut keys (that is where I found it).

Kind regards.

Willy

NOTE: Think about the first bookmark at the top of the list... This one will not accept to be promoted or demoted.
