Signature is VALID (self created certificates, CA certificates)

Post by rwalke »

Hi all,

We want to write a simple instruction for end users how to check the validation of document signatures.

Is there an easy way to distinguish between self created certificates and CA certificates?
Are there options to change the user interface to see the different quality of certificates directly?

I appreciate your help.

Kind regards,
Rainer

Hello rwalke,

You can opent he signatures pane, and there click on the "Signed by" blue text - which will open additional information about the certificate used for signing this file, and in the new window you will be able to see further information about the issuing authority:

Hello Stefan,

Thanks for your answer.
Yes indeed, the "Signed By" option allows an in-depth inspection.
But I think this is to complicated for general users.

My point is the Status message itself:
Status: Signature is NOT VERIFIED - OK something is wrong.
Validate All Signatures
Status: Signature is VALID - OK everything is good.
The document was not modified.

This second status is not useful for us in case of a self created certificate.
I would need something like
Status: Signature is VALID (no CA)
The document was not modified.
The certificate is self created.

Additionally, it would help to allow to customize the 'Validate All Signatures' option. What security level do I expect for VALID?.

Thanks again for your help,
Best,
Rainer

Hello rwalke,

We are only checking the technical validity of a certificate, and do not currently have "trusted/untrusted" lists for certification authorities, so I am afraid that there's no way for us to display such information at this time.

Kind regards,
Stefan
