Is there is setting that makes it so the panes scroll menu always shows icons instead of text? It seems like it randomly changes to one or the other for mysterious reasons. Here are a couple of images showing what I'm referring to:
This one shows text in the scroll menu:
This one shows icons in the scroll menu:
With regard to the screenshots, I created them by opening Test File 1 while having other files open. The panes scroll menu for Test File 1 changes from text to icons and vice versa when I select the other tabs that are open and then go back to the tab for Test File 1. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to when it happens other than it happens quite regularly.
I'd prefer to have icons. I'm wondering if there is a setting that will always make them show up as icons.

Re: Setting to Always Use Icons in Panes Scroll Menu
Hi,
It seems like the text on the tabs switches to icons when there is not enough room anymore to display at least three characters of their names. That is when you change the width of the pane(s), i.e. make them smaller.
In the File-menu > Preferences > General > Setup, you have an option to whether "Synchronize the layout of document panes across all opened documents" or not. When this option is turned OFF, you can have the phenomenon you describe. So, if you want to avoid this, then turn this option ON. A restart of PDF-XChange Editor might be needed to make it work correctly.
Kind regards.
Willy

Re: Setting to Always Use Icons in Panes Scroll Menu
That would make sense if the size of the panes or the amount of text changed so that there was more or less room thereby necessitating the change. However, the size of the pane and the text (Thumbnails, Bookmarks, Layers) stays the same and it still changes between text and icons seemingly randomly.Willy Van Nuffel wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 7:15 pm It seems like the text on the tabs switches to icons when there is not enough room anymore to display at least three characters of their names. It turns out I had that box checked. I'm going to try toggling it a few times and see if that changes anything.Willy Van Nuffel wrote: ↑Thu Oct 14, 2021 7:15 pm In the File-menu > Preferences > General > Setup, you have an option to whether "Synchronize the layout of document panes across all opened documents" or not.
