What does the "From email address" setting do in the user forum board preferences?

On forum.tracker-software.com, in User Control Panel > Board preferences > Edit global settings, there is an item that reads, "From email address:" with a choice of "Yes" or "No." Could you explain what this setting does?

Hello kt,

I am not 100% sure myself - likely it has something to do with the other preferences on the same page and how you would like other forum users to contact you, but those settings are not really used in our forums - as we've disabled messaging between users (due to some bots in the past sending spam via such means).
