Making the "text indicator" in highlight comments transparent is possible?

Post by igorlima »

Hello! If anyone could help me with this I would be grateful!

Is there a way to make the text indicator of the highlight comments transparent?

I'm asking this because sometimes when I make a lot of highlights that have text inside it, and the highlights are on words that are close to each other, it makes it hard to see the pdf text behind all those text indicators :( . See example below (red bracket, circles and red arrow):

image.PNG

I know that is an option where I can disable this text indicators, but that's not interesting for me because if I do that then these highlights will "blend" with the highlights that does not have text inside and will be more troublesome to find out which highlights has text or not to read.

Só, is there a way I can make these text indicators transparent so I can read better the text behind it in those situations?

Thank you very much for the attention! :)

You can set opacity of the "indicator" via Sticky Note Properties pane

Hello! Are you talking about the sticky notes? I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, but I'm talking about the balloon that shows up in a highlight if you put a text inside that highlight. That balloon has the purpose to indicate that inside that highlight contains text.

The problem is that when I change the opacity of that highlight the corresponding balloon does not change the opacity.

For me, sometimes this can be troublesome because if I have a lot of these balloons in the same place, its difficult to see the pdf text.

So I think it would be really helpful if the opacity of that balloon could correspond to the opacity of the highlight he is "attached" too.

The desired is not the sticky note balloon, but the icon that is together with the highlight, in the middle of the text.
Opacity does not make the icon in the middle of the PDF text transparent, indicating that there is a comment there; just the marking.

Hi Ovg! As lindermman said, i'm not talking about the balloon stickies notes. I'm talking about the this balloon guy here (pointed with the red arrow):

image.png
image.png (9.07 KiB) Viewed 6140 times

This balloon belongs to the green highlight and its called by the program "text indicator" to indicate that inside this highlight there is text inside. What I would like to do is to change the opacity of that little balloon (see that he is covering part of the text above?). But when you change the opacity of the highlight the opacity of this little balloon does not change, and you cant interact with that balloon individually, just with the highlight.

I was talking about this via e-mail with one of the support team. He told me that he will make feature request for this :) . When I have more information I will update this topic.

Thank you!

Hello, igorlima

The ticket in question has since been assigned to a developer and appears to be in progress. Unfortunately I cannot offer a timeline or guarantee for its implementation just yet.

Can it help to turn off the text indicators and use the Comments pane (Expand All - only showing highlights) instead to see if there is text in the comments or not ?

Regards.

Hello Willy. Thank your for your comment!

Unfortunately, I can't do what you suggested because for the way I view some of my pdfs and with the size of my screen I don't have enough space to let the comments pane showing. I think it would be a hassle too to always be turning on and off that pane. And even if I could let that pane always turned on, I think it would not be efficient to have to always look at the text and at that pane.

The pdfs I work with has a lot of annotations and I'm always consulting it going through the pages reading and re-reading parts of the texts and its respectively annotations, if it has something to be read.

So its really good to know that a highlight has a comment inside it without me having to look away of the text of the pdf.

The problem is that sometimes, as I mentioned, the Highlight note symbols hides a lot of the text of the pdf. If those symbols could be set to be transparent, it would be really good because I wouldn't need to look away of the text and it wouldn't harm so much the view of the text of the pdf.

One workaround that sometimes I do is to click on the option "Hide all comments" to read just the pdf text and than click on the option "Show all comments" to read the annotations that the text I read has, but It would be way more efficient if the text indicator was transparent and I didn't have to be using those two extra options just for that.

But thank you so much for your reply and suggestion, Willy! Hope you have a nice day!

Hello!

Although it was said that when there was a development it would be notified, still can someone tell me if this feature request had any progression or discussion between the devs so far?

Hi, 329

I bumped the ticket and raised the priority on the ticket. That does not guarantee a change on their side, just that support is "requesting" that it's priority be raised, at the end of the day, it will be at the development team leader's discretion when this gets done and we have a LOT on the "ToDo" list.

Kind regards,
Paul - Tracker Supp

Hi all!

With the latest update (Version: 10.2.0, build 384 (Enhanced OCR) (Jan 8 2024; 14:08:50)) I noticed that the text indicator in highlight comments are transparent. Thank you very much!

Probably you have noticed, but if not, from now on (build 384) the transparency/opacity of text indicators can be adjusted from 0% to 100%, via the File-menu > Preferences > Commenting.
