Automating Search

Post by 4mc »

I'm a music researcher, I have a couple of folders on a 1TB hard drive with scanned copies of old music/industry magazines. There are nearly 500 magazines in each directory.

I had a cursory look at the PDF-XCHANGE macro and command line docs but nothing seemed obvious, I wondered if any could suggest how I might achieve the following on Windows-10, without having to type into the search options entry box on the UI.

Pass a search argument, usually a name or album, record company, search a specific directory. for example where

"C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Tools\PDFXTools.exe /Search/D:\directory" %1 %2 %3

I'm OK with the UI opening after that and searching and returning results as normal.

Searching is so time wasting on the internet now with all the sponsored results, ranking etc. I've worked around that with https://ctproduced.com/ctisearch.html which allows me to search in specific pages, and then I thought it would be great to do that on my own system.

Hi 4mc,

it seems you are aware that you can initiate this from within the Editor GUI search feature. May I inquire as to why you want to avoid that?

Given you wish to avoid using the Editor GUI to initiate the search you, could make use of the iFilter that is included in our Shell extensions. It gets installed by default with the Editor and allows you to search text within text based PDFs via the Windows Search.

Does that help?
Best regards
