Length a stroke and keep the vertices

I would like to ask the following questions:

1. How to adjust and lengthen a stroke of a line , let's say adjust to 6X6 or 8X8?

2. Can I keep the vertices of a polygon from other sources such as word?

1) You can modify the properties of a line via the "Properties Pane" (View > Panes).

2) At my opinion, the polygon will be transformed to a picture.
Can you post an example *.docx ? (embedded in a ZIP).
