Find the same word in many open PDFs
I usually have many open PDF files and when I try to find a specific word, I have to type it in the Find field in each open document. Is it possible to run a global search? I mean, when I enter the searched word in one PDF, cculd it be reflected in the rest of open files, too?

Hi,
In that case, you can better use "Search" instead of "Find".
At "WHERE would you like to search?", you can opt for "In All Open Documents".
Via the "Options"-button you can mark additional parameters.
Clicking "Search..." will finally show the results of what has been found.
Regards.

Thank you! Yes, it should work. However, the Search dialog box is pretty large. Is it possible to make it as small as the Find box please?

The Search dialog-box as small as the Find box ? Unfortunately, no.
One thing you can do, is 'un-dock' the Search pane by grabbing it by its title and dragging it elsewhere on your screen.
After this, you can resize the Search pane to your preference, and it will stay upon the text, not taking a lot of space anymore.
To re-dock the Search pane, just drag it to the mid of one of the borders of the PDF-XChange Editor's window and drop it onto one of the icons that show up during the movement of the pane.
In case you are still not satisfied with the given answer, please repeat your question for the people of Tracker Support.

Re: Find the same word in many open PDFs
Hi,
For the moment at least, Willy's suggestion is the best one available. I do not forsee us expanding the "find" function to allow multiple document search, simply because it is intended to work like in a web browser (confined to that tab). If we do see more demand for such a function, that may change, but for now, using the search pane like this is a very good option.
Kind regards,

Re: Find the same word in many open PDFs
Thank you all! I undocked the window and put it below the toolbar, just above the document. I also narrowed it down so only the searching field is visible and it doesn't take up much space this way. I prefer to display the document in full width view so the fonts are not too small. Thanks again!

Glad to read that you are pleased with the proposed solution.
Re: Find the same word in many open PDFs
May I have a suggestion? Would it be possible to add such feature that the Find box "remembers" the last search please? It would still search the currently open file only but when switching to another file (Alt + Tab) and selecting Ctrl + F, there would be no need to enter the same text again because it would already be present in the Find box. This is how searching works in Firefox, for example (you mentioned Web browser behaviour). It would be very useful.

The Find box already remembers your searches from the past and the most recent is on top of the list.
It only needs two additional clicks.

Yes, I know that. I just try to optimise my work and use mouse as seldom as possible. That's why I am learning all the keyboard shortcuts. I work as a translator and when I am typing, it is much faster to switch to another application and do what I need just using the keyboard instead of reaching out for a mouse

Re: Find the same word in many open PDFs
Maybe an idea to use the last "Find" that has been used in another PDF :
CTRL + TAB (x-times) / CTRL + F / CURSOR UP / ENTER
CTRL + TAB (x-times) / CTRL + F / CURSOR UP / ENTER
Re: Find the same word in many open PDFs
Fantastic! I didn't know that one. Thanks a bunch!
