PDF file association and "Open With -> PDF-XChange Editor" not working

Hello forum and Tracker Support Team,

for some days, PDF file assignment with PDF-XChange Editor seems to be broken for me.

I can still assign the opening of PDF files per default to other applications, but not to PDF-XChange Editor. It neither works via the "Open With -> Choose Other App" context menu in Windows, nor via the corresponding File Assignment setting in PDF-XChange Editor, and also not by using the "Standard Programs" function of Windows 10 like described here:

I can't even open PDF files directly by right-clicking and selecting "Open with -> PDF-XChange Editor". In this case nothing happens at all.



I could imagine that some entry in the registry is defective.

Thanks for any hints on how this could be fixed.

Hello,

1) When you look in Windows Task Manager, is the PDF-XChange Editor (PDFXEdit.exe) process running after double-click on a PDF ?
If yes, there might be something wrong with the installation.

2) Did you already try an uninstall/re-install of PDF-XChange Editor ?

Hello David,

Please go to this folder:


C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Shell Extensions


..and start this application - XCShInfoSetup.exe


When the application window appear, please set all the fields according to this screenshot and restart your computer:

When the system is loaded again, please go to this menu:

..and again set all the fields according to the screenshot and restart your computer.


After that, please check if the problem is resolved.

This already seems to have fixed the issue even without a restart.

I shall report whether it sticks after the next system reboot.
