Comment Boxes: Format Text - Indent First Line Redux

Post by brody-xr3 »

Hi,

Following these directions to keep first lines of comments indenting:

- in a comment Text Box, right mouse-click in a paragraph
- in the shortcut-menu, click "Paragraph"
- at Indentation, below "Special", select "First Line" and below "By", introduce the desired number of points (for example "30 pt")
- click OK
- in that same paragraph, right mouse-click
- in the shortcut-menu, click "Text Style" > "Make Current Text Format Default"

From now on, each new paragraph in a comment Text Box, will be indented by 30 pt

To apply this format to already existing paragraphs, right mouse-click, "Text Style" > "Apply Default Text Format"

Example:

But, feel confused about one thing - can't get the change to HOLD. So that, if I apply the directions above inside an open file, yes - it works.

But, opening a new file. Or, even opening the same file after closing it...the indenting is lost.

What do you think is happening?

How can I get all future comments to use indenting first lines?

Sincerely,

BXR

Hello Brody,

Thank you for your report.

Just to be sure that I'm understanding the problem correctly, could you please confirm that after you set the default formatting "Apply Default Text formatting" is not working on files opened afterwards?

If this is correct could you please provide us an example file with which you have this problem as well as information about the exact version of your currently installed PDF Editor?

Regards.

Hi Dimitar,

You wrote:

Correct.

Example file is attached.

Hi,

It seems like it worked before:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=34731&p=144136
or did you never repeat 'indentation' in other documents until now ?

I have tried to reproduce the problem, i.e. same indentation not working anymore after clicking "Make Current Text Format Default", but was not able to. It keeps working, in other documents, and also after close and re-open PDF-XChange Editor.

I can not immediately find where the concerning information is stored. I would think about a damaged key in Windows Registry or a reason for not writing the information about the changed settings.

Let's hope that the support people of Tracker Software can give us an idea.

Best regards.

Hello Brody,

I'm unable to reproduce the problem at my end even with your file!

Just for testing where the issue is, could you please backup your settings and then try to reset your program settings to their default values?

Hi Dimitar,

RESET YOUR PROGRAM SETTINGS TO THEIR DEFAULT VALUES

Ah! That FIXED the problem.

Please further questions that arise:

What do you think happened? Do you recommend I uninstall and reinstall?
I had several custom highlight colors. : (... Any way to import them back in? Or, do I need to re-create them all by hand?

Sincerely,

Hi, brody-xr3

I cannot speak for what exactly happened, but if resetting the settings worked, it was likely an issue related to something that changed recently conflicting. If you can find out how to reliably reproduce the issue, we can investigate further.

As for your existing highlights. If you have previously exported your settings, before the reset, you should be able to import them again via File > manage settings > import settings. The option containing your custom styles would be the "presets" option:

If you did not backup your settings before the reset, as Dimitar suggested, you will need to manually recreate them, yes.

Hi,

WOW! Quite AWESOME! Was able to import SELECTIVELY - got my highlights back AND my History! Well designed.

And, resetting things made the indents WORK! :D :D :D

THANKS!
