Sessions with password protected docs

Post by bernard meunier »

Hi,

I recently discovered Sessions which enable opening a lot of document at time.

When session is composed of many password protected documents, PDFExpert ask for password for each document which take quite long time.
Is it possible to instruct PDFExpert to ask for a password for first encountered password protected document and remember this password during opening session and try it on every subsequent password protected documents?

Regards

Hi, bernard meunier

PDFExpert is not one of our products, so I cannot speak for them.

I can however say that our PDF-XChange Editor will be supporting password memory in the near future, allowing you to "remember" passwords for specific documents so that you will not need to be prompted for it again. I cannot say when exactly this is coming, but it is a planned feature.

Oups! I apology for the typo! the question was related to PDF-XChange.

Glad to learn that pwd may be taken in account in the future.
Will this apply to sessions?
My question/suggestion was to consider retaining first answered password only during opening files referenced
by a session...until all files are opened.
I guess yes?

Hi, bernard meunier

The pasword manager will not likely tie into the session manager for individually stored passwords. instead the passwords for each document would be stored locally, and if a session tries to open a password protected docuemnt, the Editor would use the known password automatically.

Sharing a session containing password protected documents, with someone else, would almost certainly still prompt them for the password. I highly doubt we will be including passwords in session files, for the obvious security concerns.

Hi,
The goal was absolutely not to includes password within the session file.
My suggestion was mainly to ask once for a password during the opening of
files pointed to by session file (according some are password protected).
Let think 10 files are referenced by a session file, according all are using same password,
asking one password to open all would be great and quite less bugging than being presented
10 times the dialog window asking for the password.
Hope that clarify a lot?

Hi, bernard meunier

I cannot say with certainty how the passwords will be stored, I suspect that it will be per document however. As such, you would likely need to enter these passwords the first time you open each document. Then they would be remembered going forward, So long as you checked the "remember password" checkbox.

Hi,

Regarding opening of session files, is there any chance to ask user for password for first opened file
and automaticaly try same password to open remaining files pointed by session file?

Of course, this is different than retaining password for each file but this would allow simplifying
access without asking for a number of passwords.
