Freeze object location  SOLVED

Freeze object location

I have a object ad above it several smaller objects such as text, lines, circles, etc.
Every time I try to edit or move the smaller objects above the larger object underneath keeps getting selected.

I know about Flattening but this is permanent isn't it?
Is there a way to lock it's location so it doesn't get moved. At a later stage it could be unlocked if required.
