"Progress Bar" to show the display progress?

Post by Peter2 »

I have a PDF, 32 MB, 1500 x 890 mm, 1 page, a Map with lines, texts, transparent area, partially rasterized - in total: heavy load for software.

Main question:
It took 2.5 min to display the image totally, but while the software was working I could select Zoom and Pan and so on. But basically I don't see and don't know that the display is still not finished.

So maybe a kind of "progress bar" (displayed after 10 seconds of waiting) shows the user that he does not see the entire content?

(Side question:
I compared PDF Edit 8.0.339 and PDFViewer. Same machine, same file on local disc. Both programs had the files already opened and closed, both programs where opened but hat no files opened, Pape Preview / Page Thumbnail was active. So I used the simple command: "reopen last used file"
PDF Viewer: approx. 1 min
PDF Editor: approx. 2.5 min
Screenshots of Performance from "System Explorer" are attached

Any way to increase the speed?

Hi, Peter2

Unfortunately this is not likely possible, there is no distinct "progress" to be tracked, thus even our software does not distinctly know how large a page of content will be until it is done loading. Add to that the fact that currently, we do not render the entire document, only the visible content. It is simply not a viable course of action.

Thanks,
but nevertheless the difference in performance between Editor and (old) Viewer is remarkable.

Hi, Peter2

That difference in performance may be due to your preferences in the Editor, Notice how in your graph the Editor only uses 481MB of memory, while the Viewer jumps up to 1.5GB. I can only assume the disk and CPU are being similarly bottlenecked during the process (though it is hard to be sure at 0.01% usage, the graph preceding this point seems to indicate that is happening), potentially causing the "slower" open.

If you alter the Editors performance settings, in the preferences (Ctrl+K), you may find that this can improve.
