PDF/a export increases size dramatically

Post by AnMuWK »

Hi,

we are using the PDFAPlugin.pvp to export PDF files as PDF/a conform files. That works quiet well, despite that we are facing issues with some PDF image files.

We are using the SDK integrated into our application, but also the latest standalone version downloaded two days ago shows the same issue. That is why I am posting here.

As an example we have a 12MB file which is PDF/A-1a conform. Want want users to be able to put a stamp onto the document, so we are using DiscardPDFA method, to allow changes on the document. If we now use the Save menu item, the document is nearly the same size but of course not PDF/a conform.
So we use PDFAPlugin.pvp to export the file a PDF/A-1a with the result that the file is 330MB in size, which is a nightmare. We investigated the files and saw that the problem is the images. They seem to be compressed before and not compressed anymore after PDF/a export.

Is there a way to get back to the original size of 12MB? The original file is already PDF/A-1a conform so the used compression should not be a violation of PDF/a rules anyway.

I could provide a sample PDF, but would do that only on a more private way than attach it to this article here.

Regards
Andreas

Hi,

an additional information: We tried to print the document on your PDF printer with option PDF/a compliant active, there we then get a PDF which has 25MB in size.

Hi, AnMuWK

Please do email us directly with a copy of the file, and if possible, include a link so we can download the larger version and compare them. Please also include a screenshot of your "save as" Options when you choose "PDF/A document" by clicking on the "Options..." button in the save as dialog.
Our email address is <support@pdf-xchange.com.com>. I have also asked the Dev team for their thoughts on the SDK side of things, and ma followup shortly with their reply. Regardless, if this is happening in our end user products, it should be something that can be resolved from our end in a future update.

Kind regards,

Hi, AnMuWK

Thank you for the email. I wanted to follow-up publicly with this. The dev team have managed to reproduce the issue and a fix for it should be available in todays 341 release, which should be available soon.
