Flatten selected comments - only icon is displayed?

When I use "Flatten selected comments", then only the icon is displayed. The textbox with text and "connection arrow" to the icon disappears.

Bug or Feature?

It is difficult to tell from your description, but this sounds like you mean sticky notes or the callout attached to a comment (shown by double clicking on it)? If so this would be expected as the popup note is a an internal aspect of the comment, and thus when flattened, its data is removed.
To verify this is the case, can you send us a sample document (before and after), and some screenshots of what you see on your end?

now I see the background and that I should use better a "Callout" instead a Sticky Note. But just for other users I add the two screenshots so that they know what I was talking about.
