Cannot open the document - Excel Files
When trying to open Excel files(.xls, .xlsx) in Editor I get the error: "Error [System]: The server threw an exception. Microsoft Excel error code: 0x80010105". Word and .csv files seem to open fine in Editor.
Is importing .xls and .xlsx files into Editor possible or do they need to be converted first?

Hello sjefferson,
Yes, this is possible so I'm not sure why do you see this error message!
Is it possible to send us a few example files with which you have this issue?
Also, is it possible to tell us what version is your PDF Editor as well as the version of your MS Office?
Regards.

Hello sjefferson,
Welcome to our forums.
To be able to open those files you need to have MS EXcel intalled on your machine. Can you please check that Excel is installed and running properly?
Regards,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,
Yes, Excel is installed and working properly under "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15".
We are using Office 2013.

Re: Cannot open the document - Excel Files
Hello Sjefferson,
can you please verify that you are running the current latest build of our Editor as well (336.0)? This can be found under help > about, and if you are not running this version, I would recommend that you update and try again.
if updating our Editor does not work, can you send us a copy of the excel document so that we can try converting this on our end and see if we get the same error?
Kind regards,

We are on the latest version. Attached is a test Excel that I had created while troubleshooting this issue.

Re: Cannot open the document - Excel Files
Hello sjefferson,
Thank you for the file there, I was able to convert this without issue, but have come up with another possibility. What is your system architecture (32 or 64 bit)? And conversely, what is your office installation? If possible, you should be running the same as you system is, so if you have a 64 bit windows installation (and thus a 64 bit Editor installation) you would want to ensure you have a 64 bit office installation as well.
You may also find that using our portable version to perform the conversion works better on your PC, as it will be 32-bit and may communicate with a 32-bit office installation better: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/produc ... fileid=664

Re: Cannot open the document - Excel Files
We have Editor installed on Windows 7 and 10 64 bit systems and have 64-bit Office installed. Under Preferences there is an exclamation point next to Excel and Powerpoint Word however is fine.

Hello sjefferson,
Could I ask for the screenshot of the preferences menu where you are seeing these exclamation marks, also does any text appear when you hover your mouse above the exclamation mark?
Did the portable not work for you either?

Re: Cannot open the document - Excel Files
There is no text when I hover the mouse over Excel or PowerPoint.
What is the difference between the regular and portable versions, we are evaluating this to roll out to the rest of the company.

Re: Cannot open the document - Excel Files
When searching the internet for the error "The server threw an exception. Microsoft Excel error code: 0x80010105", you can find several reasons/solutions:
- in Excel: turn off (COM) add-ins (via File > Options > Add-ins. At the bottom, select Manage: "COM Add-ins"and click "Go...", un-check active add-ins and click OK)
- start Excel before opening XLS via PDF-XChange Editor
- in Excel: turn off Automatic Calculation (via File > Options > Formulas > Calculation Options, select "Manual")
Maybe you can try them one by one and see if it helps ?
Myself, I ran a test with your TEST.xls, opening it in PDF-XChange Editor V8 build 336.0 (32-bit) and Excel 2016 (32-bit).
It converted without problem.
REMARK: In Task Manager you can see that the EXCEL.EXE process keeps running until you save and/or close the opened XLS.
Best regards.

Thank you, removing the Foxit Reader Com service fixed this issue.
