PDF Editor Keeps Overwriting Pen & Line Settings

Post by jeremyg@perrettsimpson.com.au »

Hello,

Windows 10, PDF-XChange Editor v8.0 (build 334.0)

As per the title, I spent a lot of time creating custom pen & line (comment?) settings but they are continually overwritten by the (seemingly) default pen & line settings. It is usually the first 5-8 settings of each comment setting.

I have tried:
- Creating the custom line settings then exporting these settings. But when the custom setting are eventually overwritten, I try to import the exported settings but it does not go back the setting I exported.

I have unchecked the "Presets" box when exporting and that seemed to work until I rebooted the laptop, after which they defaults overwrote everything again.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Jeremy

Hello Jeremy,

When exporting your settings, you should have the "presets" checkbox enabled, as this is the item that stores all presets, custom or otherwise. If this is unchecked, there is no custom preset data to import later on.

following that, regarding why these disappear after a reset, all these settings are stored in our registry keys, so if you have a registry cleaner or anything of the like in place, that would be why you are seeing this. If you do, please make an exception to this key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software]

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm not sure if that is the issue here, because my settings are being remembered, it is just the first 5-8 of each comment type that are being reset.

All the line settings after these first few remain and are persistent across reboots.

Do you know of anything else that could be causing it?

Thanks, Jeremy

Hello Jeremy,

If you have customized the default styles (as you said usually the first 5-8), it is expected for them to revert upon a restart, these styles being the default styles cannot be changed permanently, any changes you wish to make must be made in new custom styles, by cloning the desired style and then changing that clone.

Hi There,

Sorry to bother you again, but I just wanted to check if there is any way to delete the default line settings permanently?

I don't use these settings and would like to customise my own.

Surely there must be a way?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Hello Jeremy,

Unfortunately there is currently no way to permanently remove the default styles. I will pass the request along to our Dev team for consideration however.
