Scan Image Insertion Options

If I use Image Insertion Options in order to run OCR on a scanned document, it only seems to work using the High accuracy setting. However, if I run OCR after the scan, using the Ribbon command, Low, Medium & High accuracy all seem to work fine.

Is this only with my system?

Windows 7 Home Premium, sp2 | Editor, build 333.0 | Brother MFC-295CN.

Thanks.

Hello Arnold,

Can we please get a sample document. And also, are you using the Enhanced OCR?

Cheers,
Alex

Yes I am using Enhanced OCR. Happens with any document I care to scan. I can open the Document Properties if I set it to Medium or Low accuracy, and there are no fonts. Have not tested it with regular OCR.

Here you go. I can do the same with the regular OCR engine if need be.

Thanks.

Hello Arnold,

Thank you for the sample files. We tested this locally and were not able to reproduce it with the default settings. Could I ask you to please send us screenshots of all your scan and image insertion settings?

Kind regards,

Just tried it again with these settings with same result. Tried it with Default OCR Engine and problem went away. Same settings, but different engine.

Hi Arnold,

Thank you for the settings, it seems to be related to the scanner DPI settings, at 400dpi we were finally able to reproduce this, and I have created a ticket for the issue here:
RT#4937: Scanning with OCR enabled does not work
As usual, I cannot offer a timeline for this yet.

Kind regards,

No problem. I am using the High accuracy setting for now which works fine. The increased speed of the Enhanced engine makes that accuracy setting quite usable.

Thank you for looking into this.

Hi,

I am running into the same issue. I am using 600 dpi. I heavily use this feature. I have to scan about ~700-800 pages. And I really would appreciate if a fix is available.

For the time being I am thinking of using PDF Tools to create a task to batch process the files.

Thanks!

Hello Varun,

I am sorry to hear you are seeing the same issues here. Using a PDF-Tools custom tool would certainly be a good option to get around this issue in the meantime. For any other users experiencing the same troubles, you can perform a normal scan in the Editor, and then run OCR afterwards, but if you hold a PDF-Tools license, you can also follow the steps here to create a custom tool to scan and then OCR automatically in two separate steps.

Our dev team is still working to resolve this, but it unfortunately does not currently look like it will be fully resolved for the upcoming (334) release. Hopefully we can see a resolution in one of the following builds however.

Kind regards,

Hello Again all,

It seems that I spoke too soon, shortly after Checking up on this ticket as posting here, I received confirmation that the issue has been resolved. The Dev team is now in the final testing phase of the process and if we are lucky, it should be able to make its appearance in the next build (334)!

Enjoy!
