Error [Operating system]: The printer name is invalid

Just downloaded today for trial. First issue I have run into is trying to print a PDF to our HP plotter. Foxit and Acrobat can print, but PDF-XChange comes up with an error message. (The title of this post.)

Hello Usalcarmona,

Can I first ask you to ensure you are running the latest build of the Editor (331), and that your printer drivers are fully up to date. After verifying that, please restart your PC and try once again.

If that does not help, please send us a link to the manufacturers drivers download page, as well as the exact make and model of the printer you are using so we can attempt to emulate this locally.

Could you also send a screenshot of the printer name as shown in the Editor's print dialog, and confirm whether this printer is a network printer, or a local (usb) printer?

Kind regards,

Thank you for your quick email responses and support on this issue. As your colleague noted, there is not a fix for this yet as we are printing to an older plotter and the 32bit drivers are not communicating well with the 64bit program. Using the portable version of XChange is not practical for us, so we'll await the next release where hopefully this will be resolved. Thanks again.

Hi usalcarmona,

I would like to ensure that we have the correct people associate with the case. It seems you are getting responses both over email and this forum, may I ask you to indulge me and send an email from the same email address you already used to contact support@pdf-xchange.com and just pop this forum thread URL into the email please?

That way I can be sure that the user with this issue you and if not I can add you to the ticket?

Please and thanks.
Best regards

We continue to look for a suitable solution to this and keep bumping up against the same wall, the 32 bit HP drivers do not work properly on 64 bit set ups.

The most workable solution I have seen to date is to actually put a 32 bit executable in the installation folder for a 64 bit install!

The "Portable Version" of the Editor is always 32 bit. https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXEdit8_Portable.zip

Running that from within the Editor installation folder should give you all the functionality of the 32 bit printing, but will of course limit you to less than 4GB RAM.

We continue to search for a better solution.
