How to group graphics objects

Post by pittre » Mon Jun 03, 2019 7:54 pm

Dear PDF XChange-Editor experts,

Is it possible in PDF-XChange Editor to group graphic objects?
Especially to group two line sections (Comment - Line Tool) at right angle, to shape a cross,
so that they build a new graphic object.
Normally in Graphic software one would expect this feature (grouping) in the Arrange Tab.
But I can not find any hint how to group graphic objects in PDF-XChange Editor.

My PDF-XChange Editor:
PDF-XChange PRO + Enhanced OCR Plugin
Version: 8.0.330.0

Thank you very much!

Hello Pittre,

Currently the Editor does not offer any permanent grouping functions, however you are able to use the arrange tab to modify a group of selected objects simultaneously. We do plan to bring content grouping in the future, but for the moment cannot offer any timelines on its implementation.

Hello,

also did miss a grouping function often.
Especially for Graphic objects like lines or boxes.

Even better would be if one could also include text-fields into a Group
to be able to edit it later on.

An example would be to be able to make (small) circuit diagrams consistent of objects (block) with text- object named (attributes)
and values being able to put in individually.

Perfect would be if afterwards one could extract the text content of beforementioned Attributes into a text file.

Example: Resistor in Electronics

Blockname (given) Resistor

Attributes: Content (edited by user)
Name R1
Value 1kOhm
Size 1206

Thanks& Regards
michael

Hi Mic,

unfortunately, as base content and annotations are very distinctly different content types, the ability to select both of them at once is not something that we will be able to do in the forseeable future. It may become possible later on, and at that time we will certainly reconsider, but for the time being any "grouping" function we have will require a distinction between base content and annotations.

That being said, we have spoken with our Development team at length about moving content in groups, as there have been continued complaints about the inability to move a diagram and have its measurements/comments come with, or moving a paragraph, but the highlights stay where it used to be. In both of these cases, very careful steady hands are required to move the annotations to the new location. We agree that this needs to be addressed, and are looking for options to help users through these issues.

Kind regards,

PS. For your uses as described there, if you are making use of electronics circuts, you could likely benefit from creating stamps of your most commonly used diagrams. https://www.tracker-software.com/knowle ... Stamp-Tool

I will add my voice and say that it would be a really nifty feature :)

Hello MJN,

Thanks for adding your voice, but as Daniel said above you - Annotations and Base content are quite distinct, so if at all possible - this will be something in quite the longer term that we will be looking at!

Kind regards,
Stefan
