What events will happen when the validity period fo a document comes to an end?

Are you asking about a document digitally signed with a certificate that has expired?

Hello ewatier2,

The document itself will not be affected, you can still open and view it without issues, just the same as if someone had physically signed a legal document and you had it filed away for 7 years.

Some software will state the the signature is invalid/expired, but looking at the signature details will reflect only that the "signature has expired" all other aspects should have no issues. Currently the Editor shows these signatures as Valid, since the expiry date is the only issue detected, we may change this to match the others in the future.

Unfortunately not, this is dependent on the signature itself, so while it is possible to have a signature with for example a 50 year lifespan, it must still have an eventual expiry date.
