since XChange Pro 327.0 we have problems with annotiations. Version 7.0.326.1 was OK.
when we open the documents with Adobe Reader there is no problem, with XChange PRO we get the message "Error loading object: misaligned object" and no annotiations are visable.

Error also with the newest stable 328.1

Hello Claus Hofer,

Welcome to our forums.
Can you please share one such sample file with us? We need the actual PDF and not just images of it - so that we can pass it to our dev team for investigation.
If you do not want to share files in this public forum - please e-mail it to support@pdf-xchange.com with a link back to this topic and we will take a look for you!

Regards,
Stefan

Hello Claus,

Apologies for the delay in following up on this one!
Yes - our devs did confirm the problem and asked me to make a ticket:
#4628: Editor 328.1: Annotations in a file are not shown and "File broken warning is given. Older builds show it fine.
So that we can investigate and fix this properly!
As soon as it is fixed I will post again!

Regards,
Stefan

If you look at the change log for 382.2 then "Improved handling of corrupted files. (T# 4628)" is still being worked on.

Indeed as Krizto says, improvements in this regard are still ongoing.

However, thank you for the sample file, We will take a look and see if it helps further the investigation along.

Kind regards,

Hi llux,

As Daniel said, I'm afraid that there's still no news here and there isn't likely to be any until the release of the next build.

Thanks,

Hi llux,

indeed the ticket is resolved and with the information we have at hand it should be fine now. If you can still see this issue with the current build (8.0.331.0) please supply your files and we will take another look.

Hello,

I use version 8.0, build 331.0. When opening some pdf documents, I get the warning "Problems were detected with the document. You may save a copy to correct them." When I click "Show Problem Details ...", I learn that "The following problems were detected in the document: - Error loading object: misaligned object". None of the other PDF software I use shows such warning when opening the same files.

Here is an example:
EP000002011614A1.pdf
(577.14 KiB) Downloaded 48 times
Is the warning justified or a bug?

Thanks for that soremo,

I see the message also in the Editor, though not in Adobe Reader, nor our PDF-XChange Viewer. when I do the "Save As" the new document shows no warnings. Do you get the same result?

I will have one of the devs look at the file and check if that error is accurate. It may be that the error is there and that other applications simply ignore it, or maybe we are misidentifying the issue. I'll let you know what we find.

I asked one of the developers here and he says that Adobe just fix the error without notification. We also fix it as soon as we save, we just warn you about things. You can turn that notification off in the preferences. Look for the "Broken Document" panel in the Editor preferences page "Document Info Bar" and uncheck the box to suppress it.

If you really need to know whether this specific file has the reported misaligned content I can get one of our specialists to check, however we are already pretty sure it is accurate and others are silently fixing the issue on save.

Let me know if you need that specific file tested to ensure we are correct in our assumptions here. It will take a few days to do.

I hope that helps.

Hi Paul,

many thanks for quickly investigating this issue. I do not need that special file tested. It was just an example. Actually, all files I obtain from a certain source trigger the same error message, so I guess that there is just something wrong with how the files from that source have been created (though I'm rather surprised that the iText library which according to the metadata has been used for producing these pdf files does not seem to have produced valid pdf).

I will follow your suggestion and just suppress the warnings.

Best regards,
soremo

Hello Soremo,

Maybe those files go through some further processing after the initial iText creation, and that is not reflected in the file's metadata.
In any case - as long as the files do open and get fixed for you on save - you can disable the warning message and all will be good!

Stefan
