Can I reduce gaps betwen pages and the margins in the content area?

Post by avada »

Hi!

I noticed that I have unnecessary and undesired gaps between pages, both side by side and and in continuous view. Previously there was only a black line to separate them.

There's also some sort of margin between the pages and the edges of the content area.

Both of which may reduce page size in "fit to page" mode. (the margin always) And the gap between pages increases scrolling necessity.
Which is a blow since the too tall and unrealizable title-bar (and whatever toolbars that may be present) already wastes some amount of vertical space.

Gaps between pages can be reduced by turning off "Show gaps between pages":
- in Ribbon UI, in the View-ribbon, click the icon at the right of Rotate View
- in Classic Toolbars, via the View-menu > Page Layout
- via keyboard: CTRL + SHIFT + G

To win space, you can:
- toggle the ribbons/toolbars, via function key F8 or
- toggle to show the PDF in Full Screen Mode, via function key F11.

Darn, I missed this option, even though I looked in this menu... Thanks!

Well, I do these things. I have the menubar hidden. But all in all the titlebar is taller and unadjustable so I can't reach the space I used to have.

I use fullscreen, though I don't consider it an alternative to windowed mode.
Too bad it is still inferior to xchange viewer: It doesn't keep the layout and there isn't even a way to change the default layout; Also, you can't open the advanced search sidebar in fullscreen.

Hello again Avada,

thank you for the feedback, I should make a note however that the editor UI is highly customizable, an we do still have the Classic UI, which when customized can turn out to be just as small as (if not smaller than) the Viewer was. This KB details the process.

You can always modify the default layout of the Editor from the preferences (Ctrl+K) under the Page Display category.

I hope this helps!

Thanks, though I've never stopped using the classic layout. It's just that the the Editor's titlebar became thicker. (And doesn't match with the OS theme anymore, but I don't want to go there again.)

(The viewer I only brought up because of it's superior fullscreen mode, otherwise it's far left behind.)

Hello Avada,

I am glad to hear the classic UI is working for you, back to the viewer fullscreen mode. I am having difficulties finding what part of it is "superior" to the editor. There is only one option the Viewer offers that the Editor does not, the "keep current pages view" checkbox. the dev team is already aware that some users would like this function back, and are looking at it in the future.

Is there something I am missing that makes the viewer full screen mode superior?

Kind regards,

A little superior is still superior. :)

Also opening advanced search doesn't close the sidebar, which makes it more convenient.

As long as we're talking, a separate default view for full screen besides a keep view wouldn't hurt either. (Maybe even storing what view was used for both windowed and full screen)

Thank you once again for the followup Avada,

I have formalized the Missing feature requests into one bulk ticket:
RT#4605: Missing features: Fullscreen mode functions.

This covers everything we have gone over here, as well as a minor bug I found in the viewer that would actually make a great feature if it is possible to bring back (its a surprise).

Have a great day!

Duly noted Avada,

The request included a note that all panes used to be able to be opened in fullscreen mode, so no need to worry about that one!
As usual with any feature request, there is no guaranteed timeline, and some of the content in this one are functions that will take much work to bring in. So while they will likely make a comeback, it may be a fairly long wait before these are implemented.
