Display (or Not Display) Author label in comment pop-ups

Post by CharlesF »

Hello,

Case 1) Everything works fine
PDFXCHange Viewer Pro v2.5.322.10

1.º Let’s make one sticky note: for example, this one

Image

2.º We navigate on the toolbar to Edit->Preferences->Commenting Options, and…

Image

3.º We move the mouse over the note, and, the Author label appears in effect

Image

4.º We navigate again on the toolbar to Edit->Preferences_>Commenting Options, and uncheck that option

Image

5.º We move the mouse over the note, and now the Author label no longer appears, just as we wanted.

Image

Everything works just as we wanted.! :)

Case 2)

PDFXCHange Editor Pro v7.0.328.0

Here something fails. What am I doing wrong?

1.º Let’s make again one sticky note

Image

2.º We navigate on the toolbar to Edit->Preferences->Comment Options, and…

Image

3.º We move the mouse over the note, and, the Author label appears in effect (no problem)

Image

4.º We navigate now on the toolbar to Edit->Preferences->Comment Options, and uncheck that option

Image

5.º … and we move the mouse over the note, and… !! the Author label keeps appearing!! even though we have disabled the option

Image

Why? Should I disable any other option? Am I doing something wrong? What I would like, in effect, is that the name of the the Author label should stop appearing in comment pop-ups: for my personal notes, I do not need it.

Thank you for your attention.

And congratulations for the new realises 7.0.328.0 (Editor) and Viewer Pro v2.5.322.10.

Hello CharlesF,

Thank you for the report,
I have created an internal bug report for this, While I cannot guarantee a timeline for this fix, It will be coming in the future.
for reference, you can ask any member of our support team about RT#4587: Display author in tooltip toggle not working for an update.

Hello Charles,

Do not worry, we have not forgotten, This issue has been assigned a developer and is in que to be resolved, it is unfortunately a low priority fix, so it may be a while yet before you see it, as there are other more important bugs to be resolved first. Thankfully, this one, while certainly a bug that needs eventual fixing, does not have any negative repercussions on the daily work being done in the software.

Hello Daniel; and thanks for your quick response.

Indeed; I also believe that such a bug has no negative impact on the daily work being done in the software, and its fixing cannot take precedence over other priorities. I understand.

However, I am glad to know that you have not forgotten it, and I am grateful for it to support team.

Thank you for your attention, Daniel.

Kind regards,

CharlesF.

Re: Solution for Display (or Not Display) Author label in comment pop-ups

Post by Aristotle74 »

1. The occurrence of the author name in a sticky note does have a "negative impact on the daily work being done in the software." I have had to frequently comment and review manuscripts, grants, colleague and student in the form of PDF files but to do this anonymously for many reasons. Leaving the Author name in the sticky comment requires creating a separate document list of comments rather than commenting on the originally submitted PDF file.

2. I HAVE found a solution though. Go to Preferences-->Identity and note your Login Name is listed but below that change the Name box to things like Reviewer #1 or A, Anon, or even a single space bar for a blank. This works for my version which is 9.0 build 354.0. You would not want to try to change your login name as that links you to Tracker software.

Good luck and hopefully the software will not remove that possibility and true create a negative impact on daily work.

Hi, Aristotle74

For the purpose of anonymity (or personal identification security) this option does not accomplish much, it does not remove this information from the document, or prevent your own from being placed, but simply elects to not display that information on your device. It is still present within the document, and will be shown to anyone who does not have an option to hide this information enabled in their own software.

As you suggested, the only way to truly anonymize your comments, is to change the "name" field in the Identity preferences:
