Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Hello,
Is there a way to copy/paste an inserted object (such as a Text Box) so that it occupies exactly the same position when pasted on a different page as it did on the page from whence it was copied?
In a previous thread* I learned how to paste a copied object at the current mouse cursor position. However, I'm wondering if there is also an option to automatically paste a copy of the object at precisely the same page position as when it was copied (similar to the positioning which occurs when copy/pasting an object from one slide in MS PowerPoint to another).
Thanks

Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Hello gopher_everett,
I have tried to copy and paste few text boxes and they ended up at the same place at the new document:
In order to place them into the same place, just do not click on the page but paste them directly from the clipboard.
We have a newer build which is available for download.
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/product/downloads
Please try to copy and paste the text boxes again in the new version, to see if this work at your end.
Regards.

Untick the option below may help.

Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Would it be possible to add a feature request so that if the user does have the checkbox set to paste in the Mouse Position but then has the mouse off the page that it pastes it in the original position on the page. That way if a user wants to paste something in the same location they could click on the page in the thumbnail view and do it.
Or maybe a shortcut key of Ctrl+Shift+V that does the opposite of what the setting is set to? I did that customization for ours and it appears to work well with only a few lines of code on my end and I think other users would find it helpful if it was built in.

Hi, RMan
The Dev team have just confirmed that they are working on this and should have it implemented for the next V8 release (slated for sometime this July).
Kind regards,

Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Hi all,
a small addition to this feature would be great: objects (comments or base content) that are partially off-page should paste in place as well, when copied-pasted.
Presently, such objects are moved completely inside the page when pasting them, which can make it difficult to exactly duplicate such objects' position on the same or on another page.
Thanks for consideration!
Regards
David

Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Hi all, thought I'd tack on to this thread - does anyone else have the issue of comments changing their orientation when pasting? Sometimes the position of comments is slightly off when pasting directly from the clipboard, but what's most frustrating is that comments change from (for example) a vertical line to a horizontal line. The position of the comment is relatively correct, though? Thanks
Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
I'm seeing this as well, but only when pasting on another page which has a different origin or history than the source page, for example on a page that has been imported or created from the clipboard etc.
Even when that other page has the same size and orientation as the source page where the item has been copied from, it can happen that the copied item is pasted with a different rotation orientation and/or location.
This seems to have to do with the position and orientation of the coordinate system of that page.
Therefore, it would be great if it was possible to reset the coordinate system of pages such that pasting in place works again correctly. I believe that a good way to do so could be the Crop Pages dialog. There, another option could be added that says
☑ Reset page coordinate system offset and rotation
(or something similar)
Thanks for consideration!

Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Hi, David.P and Tom,
Regarding rotation and coordinates, we have had many discussions on this topic over the past year (Ive been personally requesting this so far), and it turns out it is a surprisingly complex task to "reset" these items without altering the page content. I have nonetheless created a formal ticket on this, though I cannot confirm if it is something that will ever be implemented or make any promises of a timeline.
As usual, you cannot look this item up directly, but you can ask any member of our support for an update on it here in the future:

Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Hello guys,
To sum up the #5266 RT:
For example we have a landscape page of 270 degree rotation and with a Media Box offset.
Basically, this should change to the same landscape page visually, but with the Media Box start from 0;0 and 0 degree rotation in the properties?
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Paste object at exactly the same page position as when it was copied
Hello all,
Until there is some improvement, a workaround consisting of the following three steps might be helpful.
rakunavi
I totally agree with the feature request by David.P. It would be appreciated if objects (content, comments) that are partially protruding from the page could be copied to exactly the same position.David.P wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 9:28 am a small addition to this feature would be great: objects (comments or base content) that are partially off-page should paste in place as well, when copied-pasted.
Presently, such objects are moved completely inside the page when pasting them, which can make it difficult to exactly duplicate such objects' position on the same or on another page.
Until there is some improvement, a workaround consisting of the following three steps might be helpful.
- Step 1. Use the Page Resize feature on the Organize tab to expand by specifying a percentage (e.g., 200%). Horizontal Offset and Vertical Offset are both set to 0 mm from center, and Content Scale Options are disabled (these are the default settings).
- Step 2a. Select the objects and copy-and-paste them.
- OR
- Step 2b. Select the objects and select "Duplicate..." from the "Selection" menu on the Home tab.
- Step 3. Again, use the Page Resize feature to shrink by specifying a percentage (e.g., 50%).
- (Step 1) 200% > (Step 3) 50%
- (Step 1) 250% > (Step 3) 40%
- (Step 1) 400% > (Step 3) 25%
- Bug: Cannot copy and paste group of elements

Hello rakunavi,
Thanks for providing this workaround! I am sure it will be useful to many until the other things discussed in this topic get implemented!
Kind regards,
Stefan
