Increasing print density, making faint text print black

Post by plugger »

Windows 7 Home Premium
PDF-XChange Version 7
Brother 1440 printer, monochrome

I have a PDF produced by scanning a paper with printed text.
The paper text is not strongly black, so the PDF has text that is also not strongly black.
Printing the PDF produces text that is faint.

I tried printing as image and not-image, with 600 and 300 DPI, with the same results.

My printer's docs offer no help.

Is there a way in PDF-XChange to "convert" the faint text to nice printed black?

Hi plugger,

Thanks for the post - The only ways would be to either use an image editor like GIMP or Photoshop, although that would likely be extremely time consuming, or the other way would be to follow the steps in the KB below to OCR the document and delete the underlying image content:

I would recommend that you do this on a copy, rather than the original. Also, please be aware that the quality of the OCR will depend on how readable the text is (what is readable to us, isn't always readable to a computer).

Thanks,

I would like to add in here that it may also be possible to change the rendering of the document to Monochrome depending on just how light the text is.

In the print dialog simply click the more button, and then use the highlighted dropdown to change the rendering mode to monochrome. If the text is too light, this may make it more difficult to read the printout however.
I hope this helps!
