"Unhosting" dragged & dropped documents

Post by coba »

Hello forum,

I would very much appreciate some help with a small problem. It seems that I am stuck!
Let me try to describe the situation:
Phase 1: I have 15 tabs open. I am dragging a tab and drop it inside another tab in order to see the two documents side by side.
Phase 2: I have now 14 tabs open. After a while, I am looking "everywhere", but I can't see how I can take the previously dropped document out of the side-by-side view. Plus, in the "short tabs list" the dragged and dropped document doesn't show up (it's not in its own tab anymore; it's a "guest" in another "host"-tab).
Phase 3: I start to experiment. I am closing the Editor and open it again. The side-by-side documents are in the same position. I am still in Phase 2.
Phase 4: Hearing to some Gypsy Jazz at the time, I have a smile in my face and I decide to make it more interesting: I am dragging the host-tab that includes the two side-by-side documents and drop it in another tab.
Phase 5: I have 13 tabs open and the "short tabs list" is now shorter.
Phase 6: Repeat of experiment in Phase 4! (What the heck? Why not? I am just curious to see how it looks!)
Phase 7: I have 12 tabs open and the "short tabs list" is now shorter.
Phase 8: I continue to experiment: I am closing the "host" tab. The 3 "hosted" documents do not close with it, rather they are moving to the next tab open, finding thus a new "host"! (You may see the image attached).
Phase 9: I have now 11 tabs open.
Phase 10: No time for play anymore, I decide to write this post asking for help: how may I "unhost" the hosted documents and give them again the status of being in their own tab?

Thank you in advance,
coba

Hi Coba,

Thanks for the post - It looks like you're create new horizontal tab groups. If you have the option to Hide tab bar when only a single document is opened turned on, then you won't be able to grab tabs and drag them back to their original tab group. This can be found under File --> Preferences --> General --> Tabs and Windows --> Setup:

HTH!
