Error [System]: Unspecified Error - Cannot Open Document

Post by prestigedocuments »

All of a sudden I'm receiving the subject error message when I try to open ANY document. This worked fine up until a couple of days ago. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and updated with no change. I've attached a screenshot of the error I'm receiving.

This is happening on only one of my computers (HP Laptop 15-F085WM). I also use an HP Laptop 15-R131WM and its working OK on that one. What happened to this one computer to cause this???

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hello prestigedocuments,

Can you please check if there is free space on the system drive? Please try clearing up the temp folders and let us know if that helps!

Hello and thank you for your reply. Prior to reading your post, I performed a system restore to bring Windows 10 back to a point prior to the date that I started to have the issue. It was a success! I uninstalled and reinstalled version 7.0.326.1 and it now works perfectly! Evidently, the newest Windows 10 update that was automatically installed on my computer on July 24 caused problems with this program for some reason. I thought I would post my solution in case anyone else has issues. Thanks!

I have a same problem....pdfs not opening at all. Problem started 8-9 months ago when I tried to reactivate my account.
Then just unsinstalled the whole program and started to use another application. Came back now as I like your app and downloaded new version and problem is still the same.
I don't want to go back with Win 10...obviously there has to be another solution also ?
Tried to find and delete %tmp% etc and reinstall a couple of times...no success.
This is truly a pain in the x...as just paid one year license....

Solution would be highly appreciated!

HI movxyz,

Thanks for the post - Can you please try deleting the %appdata%\Tracker Software (that path can be copied and pasted as is into Explorer). Please be sure to delete the whole folder, with all Tracker products closed, rather than just the contents of the file.

Thanks,
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Hello movxyz,

If you see that message, it would imply that you entered the text into the "search bar" (the one on the right) instead of the address bar (the one on the left).
Can you please enter that same string, into the address bar, as below:

This should take you into our appdata directory, so that you can attempt to delete the files as will has detailed above.

Kind regards,

Hello movxyz,

Could you please try this procedure for clean installation of our products:

I've numbered the steps below to make them easier to follow.

1) Uninstall all products of ours that you have installed. Restart the computer.
**Note: restarting the computer at all prompted points is a very large part of making this work, so please be sure to do them
**Note: Also be sure to disable any and all anti virus programs that you have running and make sure that you are logged in as the Administrator.

2) Open up File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files and delete the PDF-XChange and/or Tracker Software folder.

3) Now, go to the Windows search bar and type in " regedit ", then right click and hit "Run as Administrator" - the following will show up:

4) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software and delete the Tracker Software / PDF-XChange folder

5) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE and delete Tracker Software / PDF-XChange folder.

6) Re-install all the products you have installed before with this link:

7) Now complete the install and restart Windows.

Hopefully that does fix the problem!
