Redaction

Post by Bruneux »

Hi

In my organization, we have a little problem with the redaction functionality. We have some people who use Acrobat Pro and others use PDF-XChange. They have notice that when they mark text for redaction in PDF-XChange, save the document, sent the document to some one that have Acrobat Pro for validation and then apply redaction with Acrobat Pro, this zone of text disappear but become white and not black, witch is suppose to be. The legal department wants this text suppression in black and not in white.

Are you aware of that bug ? Or perhaps there is an option that I didn't see.

Thanks

Hello Bruneux,
Thank you for this report, I would like to verify that those users are in the most recent version of the PDF-XChange Editor, can you verify that they have Version 7 build 325.1 installed currently? If so, could I ask for screenshots of our Format toolbar with one of the redaction highlights selected, like so:
180621984.png
And then another screenshot of the Adobe redaction properties for the same annotation before it is applied?

In my current test the Editor appropriately fills the redaction as "Black" for the default redaction color. And this was maintained over to Adobe.

I know it's version 7. I will verify which build.
In the mean time I would it to be clear. All is in the good color. If I stay within PDF-XChange, all is correct. If I send a PDF that some text have been Marking For Redaction, and then Applying redactions in Acrobat Pro, the redacted text zone will be a white zone and not a black zone.

Hello Bruneux,
This is indeed what I mean to investigate. If you could provide an example document created in PDF-XChange Editor that has the same issue in Adobe, we would love to see it on this end and look at why it is acting so strangely.
Looking forward to those screenshots and file!

Hi Daniel
This is what I made.
  • Marking For Redaction in PDF-XChange of the text "Tracker Software"
  • Save the document and Open in Acrobat Pro
  • Marking For Redaction in Acrobat Pro of the text "Products"
  • Applying redactions in Acrobat Pro
  • You can see that the text marked for redaction in PDF-XChange is transformed in white block and the text marked for redaction in Acrobat Pro is in black
I join 3 files. A PDF document that was Marking For Redaction with PDF-XChange 7(apart from the text "Products"), an image (redaction1.png) of the document opened in Acrobat Pro XI, and an other image (redaction2.png) in Acrobat Pro once applied all the redactions.

Thank you very much

Hello Bruneux,
I am terribly sorry for the delay, I am awaiting a response from the Development team on this matter.
They may post her personally if they can identify the root of the issue, or an interim solution for you. Otherwise I will return on Monday with their answer.

Have an excellent weekend!

Hello Bruneux,
Apologies for not writing you back, The dev team had mentioned that they made a tweak and it seemed to work for them, now that I have updated to 326 it is working correctly for me as well!
I believe now is the time I ask you to try updating the software and tell me if anything is out of the ordinary.

Hi Daniel

I tried the 326 version and unfortunately, it didn't fix the problem. So when, in PDF-XChange, we mark for redaction some text in a document, and then apply the redaction in Acrobat PRO XI, the text disappears but let a white space rather then black space, as it should.

Thank you for taking the time to solve this problem.

Hello Bruneux,

We have made some handling changes since then and I am no longer able to preproduce it in the current build (336.0), Can you update and confirm if all is working as expected on your end as well?

Kind regards,
