Including file name in printed documents

Post by hmw »

I have both PDF Editor & PDF Viewer. My OS is Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) SP1.

I have searched the threads on this forum, and have found titles like "Several problems with PDF-XChange Lite v. 7' and 'Printer Properties do not remember File Name Pattern'. Both seem to address adding items such as document name, location, date, etc. to the TITLE of the .pdf document when it is saved, but they don't seem to deal with having that same information appear on paper when the document is actually printed. Or if they do, I can't get it to work.

When I print a .pdf onto paper for distribution to others, I want the document name and path (such as: C:\Users\HMW\Documents\Download\HowComputerKeyboardsWork.pdf) to appear as a footer on the first printed page (or on all pages, if just the 1st is not possible).

How do I do that? I am not a coding expert, but I can follow instructions.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide,

Harry

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the post - You would either need to add the footer before printing using the Headers and Footers feature, or would need to do this through the settings of your printer.

HTH!
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Thanks for the prompt reply. However the options listed on Headers and Footers don't include:
a) File path and file name
b) month/day/year
c) Page x of y.
I tried some guessing, but nothing worked.

Can you give me the required script for those three items?

I had previously looked at my printer settings, but could not find a way to do it there either. I think the easiest way is via Headers and Footers if it can be done there.

Thanks,

Harry

Hello Harry,

The options are there in the "Header and Footer" dialog box, but you need to click the appropriate button [...] above the desired text box.
See the attached "print screen".

There is even a reference to the on-line Macro Guide (that currently still refers to Version 6 instead of 7).
Here below the hyperlink to the Version 7:

Thanks for all your help. I guess I didn't see the correct drop down menus.

All set.
