Pencil Tool Autocorrection

Post by Zereif »

Hi all,

When using the pencil tool to freehand write words or scientific symbols, there is a tendency for the 'input' shape to be autocorrected.

For example, writing a, e, d, 9 will sometimes result in a disjointed mess. This is especially bad when the symbols are drawn in a small size or using 0.5pt width or less. I attached an example of the result of autocorrection when writing out 'a sample text'.

Although I looked through the options and preferences, I can't find any option to disable this autocorrection. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Hello Zereif,
While There is not built in setting for this, as most users do not have a use for it, We do have a registry key that can be applied to help with this,
Simply open the attached zip file and run the registry key to reduce the level of smoothing applied to the tool.

Thank you for the response. The new setting has definitely made small writings legible.

For the sake of customization, is there a formula to set specific smoothing values by editing the regkey in notepad?
The line: "i.InkSmoothLevel"=dword:0000001e seems to be the driving component, so is it possible for this to be changed to any general smoothing percentage?

Yes, you can change it to any general smoothing percentage.

"1e" is just the value for 30 pct.
"64" is the value for 100 pct.

When you look into Windows Registry at the key level, you will have the opportunity to switch from hexadecimal to decimal to introduce the wanted value more easy:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\Settings\Commenting]
"i.InkSmoothLevel"=dword:0000001e

Understood; thanks for the help.

Kinda feel bad now that I essentially asked the same question as the one in the linked thread so apologies about that.
