Pdf locking option

Post by cstent »

Does anyone know what other options the PDF-XChange Editor offers? I know you can lock a document with a passwd, but can you set an expiration date, so you can send a document to a collaborator and then, let's say after a month, make it unreadable?

Hello cstent,

I am afraid I dont believe anything like this it possible from within the PDF spec or otherwise. Ive never heard of a file that is on a self destruction timer, or anything of the like. Beyond that, even if a system like that was possible, the file would have to be partially readable to communicate with a timeserver of some sort to confirm the time. Otherwise, if the document "expired" one could simply change their system time to allow the document to be re-opened again.

Sorry to dissapoint.
