Ensure Visibility of Corresponding Bookmark

PORTABLE PDF-XChange Editor Plus 324.3 - Ensure Visibility feature does not work. In PORTABLE PDF-XChange Viewer FREE 316.1, as I page down through a document the bookmarks scroll up so that I always see the current chapter or section bookmark. In my PURCHASED PDF-XChange Editor Plus, I can click on the drop-down selection "Ensure Visibility of Corresponding Bookmark" and it will move to the current location bookmark but it does not stick. As I scroll down in the document, the bookmarks do not scroll up. Is there a fix for this?

Hello Imaw8tn,
I cannot seem to reproduce this over here, The functionality of the ensure visibility button seems to work identical in both the portable viewer and installed editor on my end.

When scrolling down in the document, the bookmarks should scroll down as well, however scrolling up in the document does indeed scroll the bookmarks up.

Can you send me more details about the issue, or some screenshots depicting what should be happening and what actually is?

"portable viewer and installed editor" - NO
Thanks for the reply, however my issue is with the Purchased Portable PDF-Xchange Editor Plus.
Pic 1. Start at Section 401
Pic 2. Scroll Down in Document to Section 406 - Bottom of Bookmark Area
Pic 3. Scroll Down in Document to Section 407 - Bookmarks Do Not Scroll Up
Pic 4. Click on Ensure Visibility of Corresponding Bookmark - Bookmarks move up only to new location Section 407
Pic 5. Scroll Down in Document to Section 408 - Bookmarks do not scroll up
I have also included the Version info, though it did the same thing in 323.
Per preview - Start with bottom pic and work up

Hello Imaw8tn, Looking at the document in question, i notice that the section 1 and Section 2 bookmarks are on the same page. the "Ensure Visibility..." option will display the nearest bookmark that has been passed by the topmost border of the editor viewing window.
This means that the section 2 bookmark will not be highlighted until you scroll just passed the section 2 header that the bookmark is associated to.

Why do you argue as if I am an idiot? I have been using your free products for a number of years and finally decided to give you my money for a product that is supposed to work. I cannot give you a screen shot of every time I scroll through the hundreds of documents I use to prove my point. I can move all the way to the last page and the issue is the same. attached is the picture of the last page of the document - #911, and the bookmarks have not moved. Use a pc not connected to your network system with no other of your software on it, download and open the file from your website. In number 7 I even draw a box on the page to show I have clicked on it and I am not hoaxing you. (like that would benefit me?)

Hello Imaw8tn,

Thank you for providing your screenshots. In all our tests with Portable, and installer Viewer and Editor, the bookmark "Visibility" behavior we've observed is identical. Would you be so kind as to provide a PDF with which you are seeing this issue so that we might have a better chance at reproducing it?

Thank you!

Pic of free viewer version that works fine.
Had to shorten the book due to size limit.
But if you expand all you can test it.

Hello Imaw8tn,
If you'll look at the gif ive created at this link http://bit.ly/2qDxyqZ
You will see that the Yellow highlight moves with the document as I change to different bookmarks.

Do note that while scrolling is happening rapidly this will not update, it only takes effect when page movement is very slow or halted.

I feel as if i have missed something in this thread though, so if this is not the issue you are describing, please try to re-explain it from another angle.

I'd like to confirm that this feature is not working properly.

Starting with v.7, it happens to me all the time that the yellow bookmark highlight, and the respective bookmark pertaining to the currently visible page, are not kept visible, i.e. the bookmarks are not scrolled in order to maintain visibility of the corresponding bookmark.

This feature is only resumed correctly after choosing the bookmark option "Ensure Visibility of Corresponding Bookmark". However, the problem is that this option is not sticky, i.e. no checkmark appears after choosing this option:

Thanks for looking into this!

Best regards

Oh my goodness,
David thank you for that clarification,
I had not gathered that the bookmarks pane itself was not scrolling, I thought the issue was simply the highlight not showing where you were.
I've passed this along to the devs, very sorry for how long it took for us to understand this.

Hello Imaw8tn,
Yes, I see that now, I am quite sorry for the conundrum caused by this. We are now aware of the issue and will endeavor to fix it.

Hello guys,

This feature is updated now and will work as a checkbox, instead of just a button. Here's a preview video:
It still does require testing, so I don't think it will be available in the nearest .1 build but I think it can be included in a build after that one.

Cheers,
Alex

Whoa Alex, how can you be so fast with fixing everything :o ?

While you are looking into this feature: don't you also think it would be useful if the bookmark corresponding to the current page would be centered vertically in the bookmark pane -- once it's out of view and the bookmark pane has to be scrolled anyway?

This way, you could instantly see the surrounding bookmarks in both directions again. This would be similar as the "Find" feature in all major browsers nowadays that centers any next found occurrence vertically on the page, surrounded by the context up and down (try by pressing Ctrl+F on this page, type "highlight" into the browser search box, and then press F3 a couple of times).

Thanks for considering, if applicable!

Keep up the great work
Best regards
David.P

Hello David.P,

Well that's one of those days when I decided to make small and fast improvements based on people needs ;)
As for the suggestion - I will ask that on tomorrow's dev. conference whether we should implement it that way.

Cheers,
Alex

Thank you Alex,

I very much appreciate you making these fast improvements which, although maybe minor (?) regarding the programming effort, provide a considerably better user experience.

Thank you also for bringing this to the attention of the developers conference!

Regards
David
