Search problems

Post by tpzworks »

1.
If focus is set on the search results list box than keyboard shortcut for search (CTRL + SHIFT + F) no longer works. You have to move focus to the document to be available again.

2.
There is no keyboard shortcut for navigating through search results (it was there in older versions: search next - F4, search previous - shift F4)

Hello tpzworks,

Welcome to our forums.

Please note that the search results are a part of the Search pane and since this pane is already on focus - pressing Ctrl+Shift+F will not do anything. I'll discuss this behaviour with our developers and ask if we can make any changes in it.

About the search next shortcut: As far as I remember, this has never been set to F4 by default. Please try using F3 and Shift+F3.

Regards,
Radi

1.
In my opinion CTRL+SHIFT+F should work no matter where the focus is. It makes shortcut much more usable - alternative is to go away from keyboard and do mouse click just to be able to search again.

2.
F3 does not work - it is used for find functionality

Feature 1. and 2. worked as described in PDF XChange Viewer, specifically version 2.5.
In any case you can imagine typical use case for searching:
- press CTRL + SHIFT + F
- enter search string + enter
- results are displayed, but there is no keyboard shortcut to cycle through individual items
- you can click into result list and use cursor keys to navigate, but now CTRL + SHIFT + F does not work in case you want to search for different string
- change the focus again using mouse
All this clicking and typing makes searching function really annoying to use, especially if you use it often.

Correct way would be:
- press CTRL + SHIFT + F
- enter search string + enter
- use F4/ SHIFT F4 to cycle through search results
- press CTRL + SHIFT + F to search for different string

Note:
Find functionality is implemented properly (CTRL + F, F3, SHIFT F3), you can imagine how difficult would be for the user if you implement it the same way as search.

Hello tpzworks,
Ive spoken with the development team redarding this, and put in a followup feature request. Hopefully they will soon begin looking to add in functionality to do this, and the ability to rebind the shortcut along with it.

Hello tpzworks,
It seems that it has just recently been assigned as a work order on this end, meaning that it has been considered and accepted, I canto guarantee how long it will be, but it seems like it should be coming in the future.
