Manage Presets in Measuring Tools

Post by Arnold »

In the Manage Presets window in Set Scale in Measuring Tools I cloned the 1/8" = 1' measurement hard wired into the program. The scale changed from .125 in = 1 ft to .13 in = 1' in the clone (see screen shot). I thought the clone was just displaying the scale incorrectly, but measurements using it were incorrect.

In the screen shot, measurement 1 is the scale I set up in the Editor years ago. Measurement 2 is the original built in scale, and measurement 3 is the cloned scale. The measurement of 23.08 ft (#3) produced by the cloned measurement is incorrect.

The only method I found to change the scale from .13" = 1' back to the correct .125" = 1' was by going into Properties. At that point the cloned measurement (#3) was 24 ft like the other two. Is that how it is supposed to work?

Thanks.

Hey Arnold,
I'm trying to replicate this but my end is cloning perfectly, at first i though maybe the system was rounding the number, but as i cant reproduce it i ruled that out.
Then i looked more closely at your screenshot, notice how in yours the clones format is different?
I'm not sure what would cause that though... needs more testing!

I'm gonna play around with it for a bit, maybe ill uncover something else

Yes I did change the format as 16th's of an inch is ungainly looking, and I don't need it. But I don't think that should change the precision of the measurement. I will try to send some more screen shots. It appears that once I changed the format the measurement inherited the .13" = 1' scale. Please try changing the format of the clone over there.

Clone 1 does not have the format changed. Clone 2 has the format changed. Scale is changed and seems there is no way to correct it in the Manage Presets dialog. Has to be selected in the document and changed through properties. Same thing happens in Windows 7.

I think i made progress,
When changing the scale from inches to point, point only allows for 2 decimal places, so it rounds up to .13
Then when switching back to inches it retains the value of .13

Can you confirm?

When I cloned it, the setting was already for .13 inch at the top of the Edit dialog (Calibration) with no way to change it. If I changed nothing at all the scale remained .125" = 1' and all was good. You can see the scale behind the Calibration still reads .125" = 1' because I had not changed anything. However, when I changed the format from 1 ft 0/16 in to 1.00 ft, the scale was locked in to .13" = 1'. Bottom of Edit dialog (Calibration) shows that scale the minute it is opened.

Hi Arnold,
Could you please send me your settings file to test here(File> Export settings)? We are getting very close I think.
Cheers!

Hey Arnold,

I've talked with Ivan regarding this and it seems to be due to rounding.
Those fields only allow for 2 decimal places, so copying works fine, but as soon as you edit it it rounds up to the new value.
I'm making a ticket for the matter right now, I'll slip it in here once I'm done

Thanks again!

Edit: Heres the Ticket

Hi,
This is not an answer, but a question related to preset measuring tool.
I would not display the unit in measurement for exemple : "443" , but not "443 cm".
How to do it ?
thanks

Hello YV24,

Welcome to our forums and thanks for your enquiry.
I am afraid that for the moment you can either hide the whole caption or display it whole. You can't only display the numeric value of it for measurements inside a PDF file.

Stefan

Hello YV24,

I will bring it up for consideration, but can not make any promises as to if or when it might be done!

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi.... Where can I find the scale presets file on a Windows 7 machine? I would like to be able to edit it using a text editor. Thanks.

Hello,

Measurement presets are assigned to a registry key:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\Settings\Presets\Measures\Items
The first 4 items in the list should be our defaults, but anything after that will be your custom tools.
While it is possible to view and edit these in a text editor, you would need to export the keys before doing so. Note that it is highly recommended to have the Editor closed while making these changes, as changing values while in use could potentially cause problems.

Kind regards,
