V7: Digital signing not possible, signature isn't assumed
Hello,
since update to v7.x of PDF-XChange Editor plus licensed it is not more possible to sign PDF with S/Mime certificate, even with latest v7.0.323.2.
Pls refer to attached screenshot:
If choosing a S/Mime certificate with "Wählen", stored certificates are offered, but after choosing one it is NOT assumed in signing preview window. Only sample@mail.com <Sample Name> is shown...
I did try several different free and valid s/mime class1- certificates for signing/encrypting mails
=> no success...
In previous version 6.x it did work with same certificates, so how to solve this issue?
Thx and regards!

Re: V7: Digital signing not possible, signature isn't assumed
As usual S/Mime certificates are not intended for digital signing purposes, and the Editor does not allow to use such certificates.
Please launch the Certificate manager (Windows + R, type certmgr.msc), find your certificate (most likely into "Personal" folder), and in the list of certificates please pay attention at "Intended Purposes" column. For S/Mime certificates there will be only "Server Authentication, Client Authentication", but nothing about digital signatures/code signing.

Re: V7: Digital signing not possible, signature isn't assumed
Thanks for answering, but S/Mime signing did work since generations of PDFeditor.
For example please refer to https://www.pdf-xchange.com/forum3 ... 62&t=27984 .
So please fix this regression, it is a very useful feature...
Thanks and regards, Chris

Hello Chris,
I will ask Ivan to look at this again, but in the mean time - can you please try that same certificate, and see if you can use it for signing with any other PDF application?
Regards,
Stefan

Additional hint:
If using 'Dokument/Digitale Signatur/Dokument signieren...'
AND
choosing certificate from drop down list, it seems to be working!
Selecting certificate is NOT working, if choosing it by 'Wählen' button.

Hi Chris,
You can try with e.g. Adobe and see if the same certificate can be used for signing.
Is it possible that you have two versions of the certificate - and the ones showing in the drop down menu are all supported, and the one that you manually select is not accepted for signing purposes.
Regards,
Stefan

Sorry, only one certificate for all purposes.Tracker Supp-Stefan wrote:Is it possible that you have two versions of the certificate - and the ones showing in the drop down menu are all supported, and the one that you manually select is not accepted for signing purposes.
You can try it by yourself with a COMODO free secure email certificate.
Such a certificate is accepted by drop down list, it is NOT accepted by 'Wählen' button.
Adobe Free Reader or full version only?

Yes, agree, seems that COMODO free certificate should be available for digital signature.
Will check why it is not handled properly and will fix.
