Slow rendering v6 and v7 compared to other pdf readers
I like all the features of pdfxchange editor, the customizable UI, and all the rest. I find really annoying the rendering speed, when fast scrolling there is lag in rendering with text, tables, figures that slur at the edge of the screen. I noticed v7 seems to be better with text. This is with a 1.7mb pfd file, nothing huge. I know it's not the machine because SumatraPDF doesn't do that, and even the MS Edge pdf reader does a better job. So it's not the machine. I am on Win 10, 8GB ram, i3 6th gen, I have plenty or RAM and CPU available.
Scrolling it's still fluid but rendering it's slow.
Is there any setting perhaps that could help? I have automatic in the performance settings.
Thanks

Re: Slow rendering v6 and v7 compared to other pdf readers
Hello becritical,
In most of the tests we've run ourselves - on a page for page rendering speed we are usually better than the competition, but when scrolling through a long file - some other tools might use pre-rendering of the next pages, while we don't currently have this feature, that is why we only start rendering the next page when you request it to be shown on screen.
And while this is usually fast - it is not as fast as having the page already rendered and waiting in memory.
I can not tell you when such a feature might be available in the Editor at this moment.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: Slow rendering v6 and v7 compared to other pdf readers
thank you Stephan for the clarification, it is really a pity because even the Windows app xobo renders better the next page compared to Editor. From your description however I am not sure that it is about rendering the next page, because even the page I am looking at becomes slurred as soon as I start scrolling, so it seems not the whole page is rendered but just what is displayed on screen.

Re: Slow rendering v6 and v7 compared to other pdf readers
Hello becritical,
I suspect e.g. your video drivers might be causing part of this behaviour, though I just tested with the GPU built in my CPU (as my separate card is rather powerful) - and still can not see the same issue as per your video. So I do not know why you experience this, but Vasyl and my colleagues in the dev team should have a better idea.
Given the time of year - it might take a bit longer to investigate this, but if we manage to reproduce it and figure out what is causing it - we will definitely be fixing this as soon as possible!
Happy holidays,
Stefan

Re: Slow rendering v6 and v7 compared to other pdf readers
I don't see why my graphic card would be the issue since this doesn't happen with other readers.
Anyway thanks for the feedback Stephan, I look forward to hearing what the dev team has to say.

V7 is extremely slow. It takes like over a full minute to load a simple PDF document. I will have to revert to V6, unless this is fixed. Thanks.

Re: Slow rendering v6 and v7 compared to other pdf readers
Hello drekmeek,
Can you please try to clear up your temp folders and see if that helps with the speed?
If it does not - can you please send us a copy of the problematic file to take a look at?
Regards,
Stefan

It seems it is something wrong with your system - on my ancient PC it takes about 1-2 s to open 220 Mb/6500 pages pdf file ...

It's impossible to lead us astray for we don't care even to choose the way.

Thanks for the input OVG,
Indeed it seems to be system specific, and usually clearing up the cache should help with this type of slowness!
Cheers,
Stefan

Reasonable speed returned, after I rebooted.
