How do I batch comment?

Post by mwidunn »

I'm running PDF Xchange 0.7.0.323.0.

Let's say I had 50 PDF's open and want to place the same text on each.

Is there any way to "batch" or multiple this process, so that I would only have to add the text once, while it would be saved to all open documents?

Thank you.

Hello mwidunn,

Are all 50 files the same length (e.g. all single page)? And is the text always the same, or does it change?
You can try to create a new file with e.g. just the new text that you want to be placed in all 50 documents, save that and then use it to overlay the comments in all 50 files.
Processing them as a batch job will be easier in PDF Tools though!

Cheers,
Stefan

Dear Stefan,

Thanks for the response.

The files lengths might vary: Some might be only 1 page; some, 2 or more.

On a side issue: Even in the same document file, I don't know how I would make the same comment appear. Let's say, for example, a copyright notification.

So, I guess, I have 2 issues:

(1) MOST IMPORTANT: Place the same text on each page of a single PDF file;

(2) Place the same text on the pages of all open PDF files.

Thanks for any help!

Hello mwidunn,

Then the easiest way would be the Document -> Watermarks (or Organise -> Watermarks in the Ribbon UI), and you can then set up a watermark that will add the same text (or if you use a file also graphic) to all the pages of your file at the same location on each page.

If you need to do this with multiple files at a time - please use the PDF Tools as with the Editor you can work only on one file at a time, and with the Tools - you can process all files in a batch.

You can see a detailed explanation of the watermakrs feature here:

Thanks for the reply.

I am not finding any "Watermark" option under the Organize Tab.

I also do not see a Watermark command when I open the "Customize Toolbars" box. I tried to search for it, but it came up empty.

There is also no "Organize" under "Categories."

Please, see the attached screen captures.

So, . . . now what?

UPDATE:

I tried re-setting the commands in the Ribbon UI and . . . nothing happened. "Watermark" still does not appear under "Organize."

I did try switching back to the "Classic View." The "Watermark" option does indeed appear (as you say) under "Documents." When I hover over it, though, a blank box appears. Clicking on "Watermark does nothing. Maybe, I have to create one . . . ?

So, am I to assume that there are some features (namely, "Watermark") that do not appear when using the Ribbon UI? Or, is "Watermark" now "Stamp" under Comment Tab?

This has all become a colossal headache.

It seems that you are using free version of Editor with «Hide all licensed features from toolbars and menus» option enabled ....

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I'm using PDF XChange 0.7.0323.1 (free). That shouldn't matter, though, since previously (i. e., in V6) any of the "paid-for" functions was either greyed out or came with the insertion of a watermark into the document when used. But, they were still there.

Also, if you are correct, then why does the "Watermark" feature appear in "Classic View" in V7? It does not at all appear in the Ribbon UI.

Hello mwidunn,

if you switch that checkbox - do the watermarks appear?

I have remove my key and enabled «Hide all licensed features from toolbars and menus».
There are licensed features in the classic menus. Ribbon UI working fine.

What do you mean by: "Ribbon UI working fine"? Is the watermark feature displayed anywhere in the Ribbon as it is in the "Classic View"? If it is not, then how is the Ribbon UI "working fine"?

Dear Stefan,

Let us take one thing at a time! Could you, please, address my other issue first? There is no "Watermark" tool appearing under "Organize" as you say above that there should be. Please, see my attached image above.

Ribbon UI:

What is wrong?

PS Maybe you should try to reinstall the editor?

Hello Ovg,

Seems like your link in the above post is to the top of this same topic, but we've already created a ticket for the issue as per this post:
