XChangeEditor inconsistent in export/import bookmarks to/from textfile format.. ?

Post by dxcarnadi »

Hello

I've a chinese grammar ebook without TOC-bookmarks.
The "Generate Bookmarks From Page Text" is successful.
Please see Picture 1 .. in the attachment.

The cleaning of the bookmarks in XChangeEditor will take time.
That's why .. external tools.
"Export Bookmarks To Text File" is also successful.
See 2

An external normal text-editor (with tools) can do better & quickly.
See 3

The clean bookmarks textfile.... see 4

The clean bookmarks comes in thru "Generate Bookmarks From Text File".
But this time XChangeEditor refuses to speak chinese .. I see garbage in bookmarks.
See Picture 5

Thank you.

PS. As a German I change all Umlauts to ae, oe, ue, ss ..
But chinese characters? How to change .. ? :-)
UTF-8 in the future?

It is also Chinese to me
:-)

But if you save the text file as "Unicode big endian", then it seems to be better.

Hello

Thank you Willy ....
I learn the practical usage for UTF-16 BE .. or UCS-2 Big Endian ..
... how to keep f.e. chinese characters in textfile.
That .. the standard format for textfile is ANSI.

I am not a specialist in this, but at my knowledge the ANSI-character set is limited to 256 different characters, what is insufficient for Chinese.

I wonder if Tracker Software is willing to support extended character sets for the Bookmarks plugin in PDF-XChange Editor, and in that case if there is a possibility to force TXT files to something more than ANSI format ?

Hello
At the moment I'm satisfied with XChangeEditor.
Now that I know Big Endian .. I have - with external editor - f.e. regular expression to clean the bookmarks.

BTW .. I've tried to smuggle Umlauts in the bookmarks thru "Generate Bookmarks from Text File" but before that .. the textfile must be big-endian-ed. It's successful.

Is ANSI =?= "7bits-ASCII" ? -> US-Keyboard .. amerika first ... Jawohl! ;-)

Just for completeness, for everyone who should or could be interested:

via Notepad you can open a text file and then via File > Save As, you can change the Encoding from ANSI to Unicode, Unicode big endian, or UTF-8
