PDF documents comparison

Post by chanyc »

Hi,

I am using the PDF XChange Pro. I would like to know how to turn my existing pdf file to be a fillable (form) pdf file.

Thanks!

Hi chanyc,

Thanks for the post - I've created a new topic for this question as it differs entirely from the original post. In the future, please post new questions in their own topic, for clarity.

To make PDF's fillable, you will need to use the Edit Form tool and will also need either a PDF-XChange Editor Plus or PDF-XChange Pro license:
https://help.pdf-xchange.com/pdfxe6 ... ar_ed.html
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/produc ... nge-editor
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/produc ... change-pro

HTH!
If posting files to this forum, you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded.
Thank you.

Hi

My license is PDF-XChange PRO 6.0.322.7 Single User License.

I know that Adobe Acrobat writer can use the "Create Form" to create a fillable pdf for Acrobat viewer to fill-in. I would like to know whether PDF-XChange has the same function.

thanks.

Hello chanyc,

You will need an Editor Plus (or Pro bundle) license - and will then be able to create fillable PDF forms with our Editor as well:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgebase/150
https://help.pdf-xchange.com/pdfxe6 ... ar_ed.html

But please note that Adobe's free reader might only allow you to fill in forms created with Adobe's own products. This is a limitation they are placing on their own free product, and not something we can change. The form fields we create inside PDF files are otherwise fully compatible with the PDF specification.

Stefan

I have the Editor Pro Plus and created a form that is fillable from the editor, but when I open it in Edge the check boxes show, but they cannot be checked.

How come the check boxes work in the Editor or Chrome or Opera, but not in Edge or Mac? Any suggestions as to what to change?

Thanks, Bob Roos

Hello Bob,

I am not seeing this issue here. I've just created a new sample form in Editor and opened it in Edge. I can see and use the checkboxes.
My checkbox properties are as shown:

Could you please send us the form with which you are seeing this issue?
Thank you!

Can you please update to the latest release and advise if you are still experiencing this issue (7.0 build 323.2)

Thanks

Hello spudman,

The problem with Edge is that is does use it's own internal PDF viewing tool, that does not allow you to work with form fields.
And there is no way to make the Editor open the files inside Edge as in IE - due to restrictions on Edge's end.
So the issue is that Edge does not support any kind of form fields at all - not just ones created by us. You can try with any form downloaded online, and the result should be the same.
The solution - to not open PDF files in Edge. Either download them locally or use IE as your browser.

Thanks for the update about Edge. I did update to the latest version and that did not help.

Interesting side note. Check for up-dates from the editor gives me a invalid hash error. I finally just downloaded the file ()not check for up-dates) and installed

Hello spudman,

We've not had reports of update issues recently, but of course the occasional problem might happen!
Glad to hear you managed to download and install the latest build manually!

Festive cheers!
Stefan
