Is it possible to place images on a pdf that are not embedded into the file?

i.e. I am trying to wean some users off InDesign and the only item that is causing us issues is not being able to actually have the image in the pdf linked,not embedded, ,so if the image is changed in the external location, the change will be reflected when opening the pdf... hope my question was clear....

Thank you for the post. I am sorry to say that this is not supported. Images can be stored externally, however, they will be a special format, so edits will not be possible.
