I have stumbled on a strange problem on my Windows 7 x64 system concerning PDF X-Change editor 6.0.318.0. I downloaded and installed this version on my Windows 7 x64 system. Everything seemed to work properly, and I could display PDF files. Imagine my dismay (and anger) when I right-clicked on a text file (file extension .txt) and discovered that the right-click context menu was corrupted! Before I installed the new version the top of the right-click context menu displayed the following entries:

Open
Print
Edit
Open with jedit
Scan <xxx> with Avast! Antivirus

With the new version installed the top of the right-click context menu displayed the following entries:

Scan <xxx> with Avast! Antivirus

Buried further down in the right-click context menu is this entry:

Display <xxx> in PDF-XChange Editor

This behavior does not seem right. Is this a "feature" of the new program, a bug, or some weird interaction between the handler for PDF-XChange and something else om my machine? What do you need from me to work out this behavior?

I currently have installed the PDF-XChange Viewer, which gives me back the right-click context menu and gives me the tools I currently need for manipulating PDF files.

Be aware that I have only limited time to work on this.

Same here. Some right-click context menu entries are lost, some are still here, but without function. Happened with install of 6.0.318.0.

- 7-Zip: main entry still here, submenu is empty

- multipar: main entry and submenu entries still here, but not working

- GpgEX: main entry and submenu entries still here, but not working

- notepad2: defined manually in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Notepad2\command - right-click context menu entry disappeared. Entry in registry is still there.

I hope you have a quick repair for that. How can I get back my context menu entries?

Thanks for the report - we are looking at this urgently and will advise as soon as resolved.

I'm experiencing the same problem with corruption of the Windows right-click menu.

Example: When right-clicking a file an choosing "Open with.." I just get a new menu just showing "Open with" After uninstalling the "Open With..." menu is back to normal.

I have confirmed that XCShellMenu.x86.dll and XCShellMenu.x64.dll are the culprits of this issue. You can work around this issue for now by navigating to C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Shell Extensions and renaming the file extension for both those dll to .dll1 as shown in the screenshot below, then restarting file explorer.

Here is a better workaround. Attached is a command utility that will run the following commands to deactivate XCShellMenu.x64.dll and XCShellMenu.x86.dll
Please note that the .bat file contained in the zip folder must be run as administrator.

I thank you for the quick response and the work-around. I can now use the new version of the PDF X-Change Editor without the corrupted right-click context menu showing up. I can now try some of the new features.

I shall continue to watch this thread so I can be informed of the new version of the X-Change Editor with the permanent fix to the right-click context menu.

This must affect only certain computers. Both my Windows XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit computers seem to be okay. I tried combining files using the right click menu item on each computer and it worked fine.

The combine feature works just fine. It is the Right-Click> Open With menu which is corrupted.

I got it now. I always use FreeCommander instead of Windows Explorer so I was not seeing the problem. Thanks.

Does build 6.0.318.1 fix the context menu problems?

It appears that Version 6.0.318.1 does NOT fix the right-click context menu problem. However, uninstalling the previous version, VERY CAREFULLY removing all registry entries for Tracker Software, pdfx, and pdf-x, and removing all disk directories containing the name "Tracker Software", THEN installing the new version WITHOUT installing the Shell Extensions preserves the right-click context menus. I can live without the right-click context menus for the time being, and will continue to await a version with the fix.

I thank the Authors of the program for their quick response concerning this problem.

What I understood was that the right click "Open With" menu was no longer populated. I did see that previously, but now seems fine after installation of 318.1. Windows XP 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit.

Please ignore my previous comment. Somehow I managed to download the wrong installer package. I downloaded the correct installer package and installed it. Now the right-click context menus are working properly.

Confirmed - no corruption anymore with 6.0.318.1.

For me the problem was not the right click "Open With" menu being empty, but almost everything else in the the right click context menu was not working anymore.
