comments on vector PDFs
One of the main uses I have for PDF Xchange editor is to add coloured comments to scans of a document that are then sent to site for installation,
one of the main features I use is the screen colour blend mode which changes black lines on my scan (the scans are always black and white) into whatever colour I choose......
if however I decide to print directly from our CAD solution using PDF printer this creates a vector PDF....
when I try and colour this using screen mode, it works perfectly well on the screen but when I try and print it I just get blocks of colour overlaying everything (as if the colour blend mode was set to normal rather than screen)
what do I need to do to make this work?

Re: comments on vector PDFs
Hi dasy2k1,
Thanks for the post - can you please send any sample document that displays the issue, and advise on the settings you're using to print, in the Editor?
Thanks,

Re: comments on vector PDFs
Is there any way of sending a doc to you to look at without uploading it publicly?
Re: comments on vector PDFs
never mind, have created a test image that demonstrates this....
attached is the PDF as printed from the CAD (using PDF exchange printer)
an annotated version
a screen grab of how it looks on screen which is exactly what I want to print
and a scan of the print of the image

Re: comments on vector PDFs
Hi dasy2k1,
Thanks for those - in a nutshell, what is happening is that the appearance of the objects will depend on the colour of the background. On a white page, you'll see the desired appearance, but on a transparent background, the result will be what you're experiencing when printing from the Editor. When printing, we print pages with white backgrounds as transparent and this causes the issue that you have described. However, changing this behaviour could potentially cause issues for our developers, so any solution will obviously require careful consideration.
For now, please try using the Print as Image option.

Re: comments on vector PDFs SOLVED
and I have just found a better work around,
document, backgrounds, add background, white 100% opacity
and it prints fine then!

Hello dasy2k1,
Glad to hear you found a solution!
As for the printing as images - there's a checkbox in the print preview window of the Editor.
Regards,
Stefan

Re: comments on vector PDFs
ahh that print as images, sadly it made no differance,
was thinking that you meant to tell the pdf xchange printer to print from the CAD program as an image but i couldn't find any such option in the settings

Hi dasy2k1,
Such an option would be up to the printing application whether it will send image or vector data to the printer.
Given that you found the backgrounds solution - shall we consider this one resolved?

Stefan
