Hi, I just uninstalled pdfXchange (free) and re-installed it, and now I can't use the windows search engine to search pdfs in a folder like I used to. Is there something I need to activate?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Jsl,
Thanks for the post - please make sure that you have the Shell Extensions installed. You can check to see if there is a file under C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\Shell Extensions, called XCShInfo.dll. If not, you will need to re-install and make sure to either select Full Installation, or choose custom installation make sure that you are installing the Shell Extensions.
Thanks,

Hi, thanks for the reply, and yes, the file does exist in the Shell Extensions folder, but I still can't search.

Hi jsl,
Please do try to re-register the shell extensions and check if this solves the problem. To do it - please follow the instructions from this knowledge base article:

Re: can't search pdfs from wincows search with new install
I resolved the problem by uninstalling PDF Xchange, deleting all previous install files, and clicking on the download link in this forum post: https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... 62&t=23451
That brought up the installer for a previous version of PDF Xchange (https://www.pdf-xchange.com/PDFXVE5.zip), which works correctly and enables pdf searching with Windows Search engine.
I don't know why the latest version doesn't work on my Windows 10 machine, but I don't want to mess around with experimenting with the latest version again--please don't get rid of the old version, in case something happens to my machine!
Thanks for the quick support.

Hi jsl,
Thanks for the info., I'm glad that you've resolved the issue for yourself, but re-installing the newest release and making sure that the Shell Extensions were installed would likely have solved the issue.
The old releases will likely be available for a number of years, for those users whose maintenance has expired and do not wish to renew.
Cheers,
