Is there any way I can create a hyperlink to a bookmark within the same PDF file?

Hi deege,

Thanks for the post - I'm not sure that I understand what you mean, can you please clarify?

Hyperlinks do not exist in PDF's, as they are coordinate based and you cannot have a link embedded within text. Links are essentially a special kind of annotation.

Bookmarks will link up with a specific portion of a page, but text cannot link to a bookmark.

Thanks,

Thanks for you reply Will. What I mean is for instance if I PDF-print a Word document that has a table of contents, the page numbers of the TOC are links to bookmarks in the newly created PDF. I was hoping to be able to insert in random locations within this already created PDF, links that would go to bookmarks that were created when the Word file was PDF-printed. The links would require some explanatory text of course.

I'm going to re-read your reply and see if I can make more sense of it.

Hi deege,

Thanks for the clarification - if you're inserting a TOC, then you would need to use the Advanced --> Bookmarks --> Bookmark Table of Contents feature, in the Editor. Instructions on how to bookmark it correctly can be found here:

I've been using that TOC feature for a while and it's a good one. You see I extensively markup my PDF files with the typewriter and stamps. For better clarity, I want to be able to insert any place in the document, a link to another part of the PDF which has an already established bookmark. So it would be like this:

Bla bla bla bla bla bla, (Sec. 2.1, Random Info)

The part I want linked is what would be inside the braces in the sentence above, where Sec. 2.1, Random Info is a bookmark somewhere else in the PDF document.

Hello deege,

You can't make a hyperlink point to a bookmark, but if you make the bookmark to point to e.g. a named destination - then you can make the link in the text body point to the same named destination.
Another good thing is that even if you add pages before the one where the named destination is - the destination will stay linked to the particular location and will allow more flexibility when you edit your files.

Regards,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan,

I have no experience with named destinations so I'll have to educate myself. Cheers.
