Updater won't clear after 5.5.315 msi update

After pushing the latest 5.5.315 update using the msi the updater program continues to insist that there is an update to install. I looked in help, about and the 5.5.315 version is there. This is happening on several machines in our offices. The users on the machines are standard users. We use Windows 7 Pro & 8.1 Pro.

None of the other upgrades have had this issue.

This is a "known problem" with the "updater tool" in the actual version 5.5.315.0.

The advice is to actually set the "Check for updates" to "Never", in PDF-XChange Editor, via Edit > Preferences > Update.

This isn't a bug, but is done by design to deliver the latest Updater. However, I do believe that a larger discussion surround Updater preferences is necessary and have already made a note to bring this up at our next Support & Dev. meeting.

The correct version (with the last .0 sorry) is installed on all the machines. The updater just won't stop saying there is a new version every time they open the software up.

Hi Terry,

That's right - as yourself and Willy correctly surmised, this is due to the update frequency settings of the Editor.

I believe that it would be better to synchronize the settings so that those set in the updater affect those set in the Editor, so that they match. That way, I believe that there will be less frustration for users.

Don't mean to be dense, but synchronize what how?

Also, I looked at the other post and it occurred to me, that I maintain this thru our nCentral push system. The end users don't and don't have rights to. Is there a reg hack I could push that would set the updater to "never"? That way I could check once a month and send out the updates that way.

Hi Terry,

The Check for Updates preferences must be set for the Editor and the Updater separately, at the moment, so I was referring to a synchronization of that setting.

Ah Found it. The updater wasn't in my "All Programs" but found it when I started the editor (lower right hidden icons). Thanks for the info Will
