Create Hyperlinks.

Post by Mr. Nice Guy »

Hi,

I have a PDF file with a lot of text like "further information on page xy". I'm tired of jumping around pages.
So I want to create hyperperlinks in the text. A click on a word should bring me to the page with further information.
But how can I make links?

Via the Tools-menu > Link Tools > Link Creation Tool.

Drag a rectangle around the word(s) where you like to put a hyperlink.

A dialog box with an "Advanced..." button will show up, and when you click on this button, you can select "Go to a page in the document".

More information about the "Link Creation Tool" is available via the on-line manual:

Aaaahhhhg since I create that type of links to the hundreds a day, I shall suggest the following workflow:
  1. Right click on a toolbar, choose "Customize Toolbars -> Commands"
  2. Type "Link" into the "Commands" filter box
  3. Using the "Properties" button, assign a shortcut key to the "Add Link" command (I use F5)
  4. While you're at it, assign another key (e.g. "V") to the "Select Text Tool" in order to make text selection easier
  5. In your document, simply select text like "further information on page xy" with the mouse (i.e. do NOT drag a rectangle around the text using the link tool, don't need that tool)
  6. Press "F5" -- or whatever key you have assigned to the "Add Link" command in step 3
  7. The "Browse for Link Target" dialog pops up
  8. Do NOT select "Advanced"! Leave that "Browse for Link Target" dialog alone, and simply go to your target page using scrollbars, page thumbnails, bookmarks, even hyperlinks)
  9. Press "Set Link" in the "Browse for Link Target" dialog. Set, your link is.
Repeat steps 5. through 9. ad libitum, creating links in a matter of seconds, thereby increasing your document's usability and accessibility by unlimited orders of magnitude.

Here's the video :)

Comes from this old, and ultimately very successful, discussion ;)

Btw., what about the auto-snap to word boundary feature also shown in the video? When is this one due?

Yep ;) but it's the same principle of link creation in PDF-XChange Editor.

We would love to make video tutorials and is something the support staff have wanted to do for several years, but I'm afraid that we just don't have the resources to commit to making the videos. Hopefully in the not-to-distant future, we'll be able to get some out!
