How to disable Adobe iFilter?

Post by bob_sun »

Hello,

With Adobe’s 64 bit http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/ ... ftpID=5542 PDF filter, Windows search automatically index both file name (and meta properties) as well as content. This behavior seems default, and indexing the contents cannot be disabled.

I remember previously there is at least one filter whose behavior can be selected between the two. Since I don’t have the expensive Foxit iFilter installed, I guess it is probably one of the free filters installed with one of the viewers.

May I ask that how to identify how many possible PDF filters are installed on the machine? Does Editor come along with one, and can it be configured to index file name only? If so, how can I replace it with Adobe filter?

Bob

IFilter(s) provides data for Windows Search, and Windows Search decides what to request directly from the filter - entire content, only properties, etc. based on your settings.
I suspect that to index only file names it is enough to disable all filters for that extension.

There are several tools to manage IFilters and other Shell Extensions. For example, http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
