Updater Bug

Post by narenbisht »

I had .309 installed. I checked for updates & .310 was available.
Downloaded & installed the update successfully.
Add/Remove showed both .309 & .310 entries.
I restarted the system & checked again & both the entries were present.
I uninstalled .309 & restarted the system & things seems fine.

So it seems upgrade doesn't remove previous version or upgrades properly so both the versions remain installed.
Kindly check this.

And I had deleted Editor shortcut on the desktop.
After upgrade it was back.

I think it would be good if upgrade keeps users settings/customization.
So if the user has deleted desktop shortcut, upgrade shouldn't bring it back.

Hi narenbisht,

did you use the build in check for updates to get the download or did you grab it from the website? I ask because if you mixed up exe and msi installers you might see this.
Best regards

Hi narenbisht,

Thanks for info. - I'm going to have to double check this with the Dev. Team, but I believe Paul has hit the proverbial nail on the head here. I'm fairly sure that the Editor's Update will update using the MSI installer and so, if your initial installation was done via the EXE, this would make sense. I'll pass this to the Dev. Team for confirmation and will see what can be done.

Cheers,

I had downloaded & installed zip installer from official site as its mentioned default.

During update check I noticed editor downloaded msi installer & installed. It installed like original install i.e free & pro i.e there was no option like upgrade/update (keep changed settings) or fresh install.

Today upgraded to .311 & double PDFXchange entries prob in add/remove programs is solved i.e there was no double entries.

But it would be good if the upgrade doesn't creates PDFXchange shortcut on desktop if the shortcut has been removed by the user. Other user changes were intact i.e not reverted back, thats good.

Hi narenbisht,

Thank you for the follow up, and we are glad to hear that the issue is resolved.

I will definitely be mentioning that to the dev team. I suspect it will not be difficult to implement.

Cheers!

I won't open another topic and I post here my problem.
My updater gets stuck for pdf-xchange viewer. Xchange editor worked fine...
I tried several times and the same behavior: after step 1 the update gets blocked. And it's not my internet connection. Any suggestions?
I think I will download the new version from your site instead.

And by the way, when I install the editor it is put as default program for pdf files. How can I prevent this when I install the editor (I prefer pdf-xchange viewer as default program)?

Just ignore my last message. I retried and it worked. Maybe it was my connection...

Hello afh,

Great to hear it worked, and as for the setting as default - I will mention it to the devs.
For the time being - after update open the Viewer and go to Edit -> Preferences -> File Associations to restore it.

Stefan
